Taking a break...

current mood: amused

...from ep 19's editing as I was trying to see if one line might be quoted in the book when I ran across this little tidbit again. It's from this episode, only they changed the scene so we didn't get to see this. It's after Ryuuki calls Seiran forth after stating that he'll be assigning an officer specifically and exclusively to Shuurei and Eigetsu...

R: "As requested by Haku Daishogun, you are being assigned as their exclusive officer. In terms of position, you will be promoted to the right Uringun, however you'll be given authority such that you are not bound to the Uringun. That authority shall be greater than that of a provincial shogun. Accompany them, and help the two new governors. Also..."

At those words, Haku Daishogun got a very disgruntled look on his face. Beside him, Koku Daishogun who almost never speaks muttered, "...He got away beautifully didn't he, Raien?"

"Shut up. Dammit, he's part of the Right Uringun in name only? The bastard tricked me!"

"...You're the one who said you'd hear him out, right? That's what you get for not listening first. He completely got away with the best of everything."

"D-dammit! Damn you, Yousei, you're talking a lot today, aren't you?"

"We get to see those reknowned swords up close after all. I'm excited. Look."

Ryuuki took out a pair of swords. Seeing them, surprise ran through the guards at the back.

"'Kanshou' 'Bakuya'......!"

Those were the twin swords that had been sealed away for a long time. Essentially national treasures, those swords had been bestowed by the previous Emperor to the prince that was considered the greatest scholar and fighter both--Prince Seien.

***********

Oh yeah! And before I forget again, the part of the unmasking that we didn't get to see, just after Kijin takes the mask off... Poor Kijin. ^^;;

"--Now then."

The moment Senior Secretary Kou said those words, screams could be heard throughtout.

"Oh nooooo! We forgot about his voice--!!"

"W-w-w-wait a moment, Senior Secretary Kou! Plug your ears; plug your ears--"

"Uwaaa, Official Ryuu's passed out--! He is elderly after all!"

"Idiot, do you have time right now to tend to others?! If you value your life, plug your ears!"

Okay, time to get some new tea and finish off the edits. ^_^

Ehh, these two scenes won't be shown? And I was so looking forward to them... I wanna see what Kijin looks like... *burst into tears*

We get the "unmasking" scene, but the voice part of it isn't there.

With the risk of being the "slow-&-ignorant" here, I'll still ask this. What does Kijin's voice got to do with him unmasking and all? I don't get it. I laughed at the dialogue cause it is funny but I still don't understand what does his voice have in connection with his face when Kijin sounds so manly? :((...Somebody....please explain...

^^; I haven't done the "differences" for the earlier episodes, so I probably didn't write down Kouyuu's original description for Kijin. "His name is Kou Kijin. He's from the Kou (yellow) clan. Sex: male. Age, looks, and voice are all unknown."

Basically, the mask he wears muffles his voice so the people around don't really know what his voice sounds like. However, his voice is very much like the rest of him which, if you've watched ep 18, you'll have an idea of. Otherwise, think back to when we see Shuurei playing with his hair. ^^;

I'm so sorry...I still don't get it...:( I now realized my mind must be defective in someway for still not getting it. But if my guess is correct, his voice is exactly the same as what Shuurei described his hair to be?

A lot becomes clear when you've seen ep 18 since it's part of a scene from there. ^^;

But if my guess is correct, his voice is exactly the same as what Shuurei described his hair to be?

Yes, only voice-wise. If you recall, his hair was extremely silky and very, very beautiful. Everything about Kijin is that way in fact, which is why he's permitted to wear his mask. It also explains why his exam year was called "The Nightmare Exam". Everyone who saw him were completely taken by his looks that they forgot everything else. Over 30 people lost their jobs because they forgot to ring the bell signalling the end of the exam, and other than Reishin and Yuushun, everyone else taking the exam failed.

His physical looks then explain why that woman refused to marry him because of his looks. ^^; And his voice is much the same. Kouyuu says in the ep that Reishin'd said Kijin's looks would cause flying ravens to fall from the sky unconscious. And we see his voice had the same effect on Official Ryuu, who passed out from hearing him say the words "Now then". ^^;

There seems to be a contradiction in the anime. In episode 9, Reishin and Kijin were talking together and Kijin wasn't wearing his mask. Only the bottom half of his face was shown but the voice actor was the same as the one when Kijin was wearing the mask... as least, there was no difference between wearing the mask and not wearing...

There are a number of little differences between the anime and novels and the odd contradiction as well. I was hoping we'd see something for this scene especially since Kijin's been made into such an automaton initially, but... :/

Please spoil this for me: Does Shuurei ever witness non-maskiness? And what is her reaction?

Posted by: Silvergem88 (silvergem88)
Posted at: October 1st, 2006 07:24 am (UTC)

Ermm...in the novel, yes, she saw but in different circumstances and she never knew that the 'beautiful kind stranger' was Kou Kijin. There was a diversion from the novel and different cirumstances caused Shuurei and Ensei to go to Kijin's place, all without knowing that it's Kijin cos the mask was off (it would fit in episode 10)
Well, her reaction then was to stare for a bit then became practical cos a kid had gotten heat stroke when the 'kind, beautiful stranger' offered his manor to them:) Sorry, no fainting or extreme reactions there except for the kids... Later, Kijin was to mention that he might just marry her cause she could converse with him normally without fainting, lol...
I've no idea about the anime...

Sorry? No needs for apologies! This is exactly what I hope for. >:D

"Oh, neat, you're pretty. Hey, please hold this for me, I have something to do."

And of course this gives me hope that Shuurei might turn out to actually be a secretive spider-queen manipulating everyone behind their backs with the precision and care of a Norn or a Moirae. Y'know, that SOMEDAY she'd be presented with a plot or a coup and would go "Oh, I know all about that already", and then she'd depose purple-boy and become an Empress-All-But-In-Name, feared through the land; the all-seeing Mother of the land, with the strings of men's blood-veins pulled out of their hearts and used by her in a macabre puppet-dance of power and death.

lol that would make an interesting plot twist though I don't wanna see any harm befall my sweet sweet Ryuuki ;-;

So that was the truth why Kijin said that to Reishin. I've always thought he only did that to annoy Reishin (lol). Thanks for the clear-up.

No, I think that that was done partially to annoy Reishin as well. I can just see Kijin making use of Reishin's obsession with Shouka and Shuurei to annoy and piss him off. But I think he also truely admires Shouka and likes Shuurei(for her capabilityand attitude?)...

Thanks so much for confirming my guess. I actually saw 18 before. I was just really too slow to get the whole idea of him being ALL-THAT pretty what with his voice unchanging ever since he appeared. Now I can share others' disappointment about Kou Kijin anime vs. Kou Kijin manga (lol) ^^. I kind of wish they had another seiyuu when Kijin spoke without his mask (hintSakurai-san/Ishida-san/Konishi-sanhint) but oh well.

Oooh, thanks so much for the tidbits! ^_^ It's really a pity we don't see those scenes animated! (I would so love to see what Kijin's face looks like...)

But the whole scene with the voice causing people to faint is pretty hilarious, LOL. So he's beautiful not just in looks, but in voice as well ... (he's starting to remind me of those Greek Sirens that drive men insane with their beauty and their songs...)

PS. Is it odd that I find the way Seiran wormed out of the Uringun funny? (Hehe, perhaps Seiran is more sneaky than he appears to be, LOL. XD)

Posted at: October 1st, 2006 07:28 am (UTC)

The novels placed more emphasis on the brains of Seiran after his identity has been exposed in story 1. There were a lot of funny scenes that showed his brilliance and even Ran Shuuei couldn't escape his manipulations, lol...

Posted at: October 1st, 2006 11:21 am (UTC)

Oh bloody hell, I so wish my Japanese was much better so that I can read those novels!!! T_T Oh, how I would LOVE to see Seiran's brilliance! (Haha, poor Shuuei, ne?)

Posted by: Silvergem88 (silvergem88)
Posted at: October 3rd, 2006 08:38 am (UTC)

It was Shuuei's own fault for daring to mess with the former Prince Seien known for his manipulations of court officials even when he was a kid.
In book four of the novel, Seiran was so pissed off once that he said, 'He actually dared to mess with me knowing that I am Seien? Fine, I'll let him have a taste of my capability!'
Forgive me my translation and the 'He' refered to has not turned up in the story yet. It does not refer to Shuuei...

(LOL, the more I read, the more it sounds like Seiran would make a good Slytherin ... but I guess that's just my Harry Potter brain talking.)

Ooooh, who IS this person that dared to mess with Seiran? Hmmm ... is it that Sa Sakujun fellow? (Or is it someone else entirely?)

I've been wondering about the twin swords... In episode 20 wasn't Seien fighting with his half of the swords after he was exciled? How did both swords make it back to the royal palace?

Posted by: Shadow (kagedreams)
Posted at: October 3rd, 2006 11:27 am (UTC)

Actually, I think Kanshou was taken away from Seien when he was taken into custody and he was fighting with a regular sword. I didn't think it was Kanshou that he was wielding anyway... :?
