Quick note(s)

July 3rd, 2006 (03:18 am)
exhausted

current mood: exhausted

Almost done with the initial translation, though it really does sound choppy. >_<;; The joys of struggling with something. *sigh* Anyhow, after I get a chance to go through it again tomorrow day, I'll post it along with several other updates (finally).

Otherwise, the scene I'd hoped to have show up but didn't is:

One of the scenes that I'd hoped to see in this side story that didn't end up showing up (not too surprising since it's a foreshadowing scene and we haven't met Dr. You in the anime...).

Basically, from the rooftop of Kougarou, Shou Taishi peers down on the fight happening below. Next to him, drinking sake is another old man. The other man tries to sweep Shou Taishi's feet out from under him but Shou easily avoids the attack even though he had his back to him.

"That's dangerous. What were you going to do if I fell Kou (yellow) You"

"I did it to make you fall so don't sidestep! If you'd fallen and been crushed in the fall, I figured I'd carry out a number of human experiments... or rather, I'll take good care of you so don't worry."

"Don't lie. You're such an evil doctor."

"Just be thankful that I'm drinking with you. It's not like I'd want to drink with you."

"What's that, you quack? If you've got a problem with it then pay me back for the sake"

"In that case, you give back the plum sweet buns."

*****

"How much time does he have left?"

"......Not very much."

Dr. You muttered, "I see" and stared off into the night sky. Shou Taishi continued drinking in silence.

"...But that even you'd change Shi Shou. That you'd come to like a human."

"I hate them."

The voice that replied was young. Dr You laughed like a child. His voice too, like the young man's was young.

"But it's been a long, long time since then. So we can both admit that it's possible to have exceptions."

The lack of answer was answer in itself. Dr You continued, "...Do you think all eight enlightened ones will come together?"

"Who knows. There are some who are still sleeping."

"Wel', that's good too. For now, at least we're able to drink."

"...You're drinking too much Kou You. Just who's sake do you think that is..."

There's another mini-scene where we get the info on Seiran and Shouka knowing about Kougarou that I want to jot down later as well. Seiran, what did you mean by that statement?!? ^^;;

Anyhow, bed time. Good thing it's the long weekend. ^o^

wht???

Dr. You isn't human, too? I'm starting to not understand this series... There are some "spirits" or "ghosts" on it? O_o

Re: wht???

*blink* Come to think of it, we do have one ghost story as well in this series... ^^;

Kou You like Shi Shou would be one of the "sen" or people who have reached enlightenment. Originally they were people... maybe?? Religion isn't my strong point. ^^;

Neee spoiler question....

eigetsu and hochou...are they members of the 8 sages?
*is totally having a moe-moe crush on eigetsu* hehehe

As far as I'm aware, neither of them are one of the "sen". Eigetsu I'd wager is definitely not (he was almost killed when he was ~4). I have my suspicions about one other person but we don't really meet him so it's hard to say. I'm also leery of Eiki, but she might be unusual because she's from the Hyou clan. (Which is just plain strange on its own.) ^^;

who's eiki?
also do one of the characters we've seen so far have a sister? there was this japanese fanart site with tons of pic of some girl hanging out with the bishies and shuurei x_x
it's not houcho...
she's about shuurei's age.
maybe it was a mary sue fanart? lol

wai! I WANT MY MANGA T__T
btw do you know how often beans ace runs kokumono? i want to get a copy of it when i visit nyc later this month.

Eiki's Sa Taiho's widow. We'll meet her... probably some time after the story shifts scene away from the capital.

Shuuei supposedly has quite a number of half sisters, but we never meet them. ^^;; But if it's only one girl and she shows up a lot, I'd bet first on Kourin, second on Shunki and third on Sai Rin. Kourin we might meet again at the end of this next story arc, Shunki we meet around the same time as Sai Rin IIRC, maybe two stories later.

Beans Ace is a quarterly magazine, but if you can get vol 4:

http://www.kadokawa.co.jp/mag/beansace/index.html

it has a poster for Saiunkoku in it. The next release is for early July but I haven't seen a list of what's inside. >_<;

This one though is what I'm really curious about. It's the novel series if I'm not mistaken. >_<;; This issue is supposed to have Shouka papa's story in it.

Wheee!  (avataresque  ^_^)

I'm such a Kyo fangirl. I read "Shi Shou" as one word, and a little part of my brain bounced & squeed for Kazuma. I'm going to go be ashamed for a while now.

In Kokumono news, that's quite the scene. A lot of foreshadowing to leave out. O.o

*laughs* I know my fingers sometimes trip up on some of the names sometimes... ^^;;

I'm not quite sure what the anime's going to do about this aspect. We were supposed to meet Dr. You in the second story, and he sometimes pops up in passing mention after that, but he wasn't included yet in the anime, so in that sense I can understand why it wasn't included. But... at the same time, it really hints at what's to come in books 7-9... >_<;; There are so many of these small scenes in the novels that just don't get story time in the anime. *sigh*

Thanks for the missing scenes, as always! I wonder what the 8 immortals are up to, and why the OP sequence has that phoenix with 8 tails. (It's that part that makes everyone thinks this is Fushigi Yuugi at first glance.)

"plum sweet buns" - I wonder what dish this is, as I've never seen or heard of a Chinese food of similar description, and it sounds tasty. Is it Japanese? I always thought Shou Taishi was into umeboshi.

I like the You vs. Shou chemistry. It's really like the Kouyuu/Shuuei and Kijin/Reishin camaraderie. Great stuff. But depending on when they're going to get into the supernatural element of the plot more, I can see why they'd want to concentrate on just the humans for now. Btw, I never understood this, but Shou Taishi resurrects the ghost of Sa Taiho, right? Why did he do that? To have a friend? And where'd the ghost/ashes wind up?

I thought the scene where Seiran and Shouka defer to Kochou to care for Shuurei was that mysterious Kougarou scene you were referring to before, but it seems there's more? :)

*laughs* I've never heard of them either, but it seems to be a running thing in the books with Shou and ume, whether it's ume trees, ume manju etc. (Did a quick Google and while there's some mention, ume manju is not very common. A few hundred sites...).

Btw, I never understood this, but Shou Taishi resurrects the ghost of Sa Taiho, right? Why did he do that? To have a friend? And where'd the ghost/ashes wind up?

He does. IIRC, he does it because there's trouble with the Sa clan WRT who's to be the new head of the clan now that Enjun died. The full reasons will become apparent in story... 5 I believe. Definitely not to have a friend, though he does miss him. I don't think he'd disturb his friend's rest for that. The ghost had some things to take care of and for a while he resided in a ring IIRC. In the end though, he moves on.

I thought the scene where Seiran and Shouka defer to Kochou to care for Shuurei was that mysterious Kougarou scene you were referring to before, but it seems there's more? :)

That's the scene... sort of. In the novel, the scene takes place after Kochou says that the one who left her chambers in the middle of the night was Shuuei.

*****

"...By the way, is Shouka famous over here?" Ryuuki remembered the mention of "Kou Sensei" and cocked his head.

"Yeah. Although I'd heard rumours of him from clients from time to time since he's eccentric." She smiled wryly as she looked at that "eccentric" one's daughter. "A little after you started working here, he came here on his own."

"Father did!?" Shuurei's eyes widened when she heard that.

"I'd thought he'd come to yell at us. Instead he politely bowed his head and said "please take good care of my daughter."

"Eh? Huh!?"

"He said "My daughter just lost her mother, and no doubt, there will be many things that will come up from here on that I, as a man, can't understand. Please take good care of her.""

"............"

"And next Seiran came, and he said the exact same thing as Kou Sensei and left so I couldn't help laughing. And Kou-sensei's household were instantly famous."

"Se- Seiran also knew!?"

Seiran's figure as he put his hand to his forehead and wouldn't meet her look, was his silent answer.

"I couldn't help smiling at having been given charge of a very dear daughter. From time to time, they'd come and check how things are going."

Kochou gave Seiran a meaningful look.

"And both of them, despite invitations from some of our most famous women, refused their offers. Even when the women said that there'd be no charge, it was completely useless. So they became quite famous from that as well."

Seiran jumped up slightly in surprise.

"Ko-Kochou-san"

"What is it, Seiran. I'll never forget you flatly refusing my offer. Afterall, you smiled and said something like 'Don't blame me if you regret it afterwards' to me."

Seiran froze at the astonished look on Shuurei's face.

Right now, without doubt, Kochou was the most powerful person in that place.

*****

Seiran... what did you mean...?? ^^;;

*laughs* Thanks! I'm tempted to think Seiran meant what he said in the, "might cause a succession problem if she breeds," sense, but hey, that can mean a lot of far eviller things. And I prefer the eviller things. ;P

Of course, if he meant it that way, where has that boy been sleeping and with who?! He was practically a preteen when he left the palace. Shocking! ;)

*coughs* Well, we have established the guy's a bit driven.

Shi Shou is linked to purple, therefore, the link to plums makes sense. If Story 5 involves Sa Province, then this must be the one with Enjun's widow as well. Wow, definitely more stuff to look forward to!

rereading....didn't catch this the first time around

ok that just broke my brain and I don't feel half as bad for writing a Seiran/Kouchou 'quickie' *dies*

Hahahaha. A lost cause. I was hoping this scene was included in the anime. It's quite funny.
