OK, I admit, I'm sloughing off

June 21st, 2006 (08:26 pm)

current mood: amused

Decided to hit m1 today and check out their sale as well as pick up the 3mm circular the female sibling unit needed for the Mermaid Jacket. O_O *Lots* of stuff was on sale, and I got a skein of Schaefer's Andrea yarn as well as 2 skeins of 2-ply Jade Cashmere for myself, while the female sibling got 2 skeins of Schaefer's Anne (merino-mohair sock yarn) as well as six skeins of a different sock yarn. *sigh* The real reason I wanted to go was to get more sock yarn for myself but instead, it's all the female sibling unit's. >_<;;

What I wanted was to get some Lorna's Laces Sock yarn. What they had was - nothing! Somebody apparently came in at opening and bought the whole kit and kaboodle!! >_<;; (We went around 1-1:30 PM, they opened at 11AM). Waaaahhhhh!!!

So now, I'm looking at stealing the FSU's previous sock month yarns and/or thinking about ordering some from either knittingzone.com (Lorna's Laces) or from Lisa Souza's (sock! merino). Lisa Souza's is wonderful for turnaround overall, I love the dynamic colours, and I suspect that one skein will make proper knee highs for me. Lorna's Laces, I'd either have to do contrasting ribbing or get a third skein. Granted I haven't finished my current pair yet, but... I'm plotting. :P The current pair (my World Cup project) is... maybe at half length for the sock, and is quite amusing. One's showing lots of light tones, with greeny-blue and purple tones, while the other is dark purple with rare light patches and with teal highlights. ^^;; The joys of hand-painted yarns. As it is, since they're top down socks, I'm hoping the feet will be fairly similar overall in tone, while the legs will be quite distinct. I wonder, if I bought another skein, would I be able to duplicate the effect reasonably well to separate the pair?? :P

Otherwise, for some reason, I've been really bad and playing with screencaps from Saiunkoku. Can I please beg someone to make me an icon out of this image? (You can ignore the title for it.)

Otherwise, if anyone's interested, I've put a bunch of screen caps and slightly trimmed shots from the anime in my gallery on LJ. For some reason the shots are all out of order, and I can't seem to figure out how to reorder them. >_<;; I'll have to play around with it further later.

Anyhow, I *must* sit down with final checks and finish off that SS trans. ^^;;

Reading about your knitting shopping experience makes me want to dash to Hobby Lobby or JoAnn and get supplies for something, anything! (actually I should be making a skirt for a dinner we have on Saturday, but I sat for about two hours just staring at the patterns, trying to decide which one I wanted. I better hurry if I want something to wear :-) )

I can try to come up with an icon for you. I'm not super talented, but I can give it a try:-)

Yikes! You have to make a skirt by the weekend? ......Isn't this cutting things a bit close? ^^;;

If you're willing, I'd love it if you could make an icon for me! ^___^ My own skills at making icons is quite limited. ^^;;

Quite literally :-) (Your wording made me giggle. It was so cute and funny!) I have now decided on a pattern and am almost ready to cut during my lunch break. Then I'll go on a sewing marathon tonight to see if I can finish it (although I am already thinking of alternative outfits ;-) )

I am saving the image into my desktop and will start working on an icon. I'd love to do that! :-)

you don't say

heh-heh. . . you have a world cup knitting project too? I am doing the baby sweater. It's going to be the world cup baby sweater. I now realise have to do three!! BUt, i am going to do the flip-flop slipper sock patterns inbetween. SO, then doing that baby sweater pattern three times in a row will not be mind-numbing.

on another note.....HATE cotton. It just stretches to much. There is something about it that is just rubbing me the wrong way. DEFINITELY the next two sweaters are going to be in merino wool.

And, I LOVE your new icon. baby SHuurei!! SHe is soo cute!!!! So was seiran. I still have to read your translations for 10 and 11..i am soo behind!

Heh. Yup. Although, they're about 2-3" short still on length and they're now known as "day" sock and "night" sock because of the colour variation between the start and end of the ball. ^^;;

According to the FSU, cotton has to be knit firmly since it has no give. It will definitely show any variation in tension. Otherwise, unless you're set on using merino wool (presumably superwash), since it's for baby clothing, you might want to look at a good acrylic as well since it won't need as much care as wool will.

I loved ep 11 for all the cute pic's in it! ^___^ So many things I'd love to see iconed. Too bad I'm not overly graphically inclined. ^^;;

i love your lj layout by the way. ^____^ did you make it yourself or get someone to design it?

and, what is FSU? Yeh, i have been knitting the cotton firmly, but it's quite a challenge! It seems that as tight as i think i have the gage, as i move down the rows, i notice inconsitencies. GRRRRRR

I could use arcylic...that's an idea too. the thing i find with patterns in magazines, they definitely gear the patterns to cater to THAT wool and then, if you buy something different, you have to adjust the gage. gah!

I usually like working with arcylics, and the only reason i worked with this great cotton is because i had never knit in cotton and wanted to give it a go. last time i do that one. heh-heh.

Episode 11: definitely alot of *squee* moments. I really loved the parts with more about Shuurei/Seiran's youth together and her mum. (and, by the way, how HAWT was Shouka when he was young. MEYOW!!)

I'm not quite sure what happened to the layout, it seems to have changed slightly when I updated to a paid account? *confused* Otherwise, it's the 3 col layout IIRC.

*laughs* FSU is short for "female sibling unit". I often abbreviate it since it's quite long to type. ^^;

Acrylic definitely has its uses and strengths, and is quite forgiving. ^_^ Although I'll admit, I'm thinking about making my next pair of socks out of a cotton blend. At least it'll be a blend. :P

definitely worth giving cotton one try. kinda like a "been there, done that".

And, i have a couple skeins of it leftover and may just use it up to make the other baby sweater.

heh-heh....FSU .... i have a couple. . . tho both younger. ^^

Saiunkoku Character Pics

I'm glad that you have most of the character pics for Saiunkoku up. Now, it's easier for me to keep track of who's who since there seems to be a lot of characters in the series.

hagi :[

Ahaha, randomly lurking on your lj again, I had a look at the picture and the first thing I thought was that there must be a relevent Shakespeare quote. And the best one I could think of is from Richard III, "Was ever woman in this humour woo'd?/Was ever woman in this humour won?" It's not entirely suitable in context, but out of context, I find it quite amusing.

I've only commented a couple of times, but I do come here reasonably often for Saiunkoku and Fruits Basket updates, so I was wondering if it would be okay to friend you? I'm currently learning Japanese as well, so we have a couple of shared interests.

*goes back to lurking*
