Shopping silliness

January 18th, 2006 (11:59 pm)

Still waiting for scans to become available and I've actually been trying to keep from spoiling myself too much on the chapter this time. ^^; It's going to be a long wait though between this and the next chapter. 3/4 release in vol 7. >_<;; Ouch! But, Takaya-sensei tends to take a long break at this time of year IIRC from the past couple of years. (The rest of what follows is shopping silliness. :P)

Today was to be the major shopping trip down to 17th - a trendy and posh part of town. That area has completely changed from when I went to high school so it was a bit weird. The first thing I noticed was that Callebaut Chocolatier wasn't there; but supposedly that shop closed shortly after they opened their current main office. Anyhow, we found parking almost immediately and it was quite reasonable; shockingly so and the first thing we did... rather than walking straight east down to Mona Lisa, we walked N a block, E a block then S a block. Someone completley forgot where Mona Lisa was. Oops. >_<;; But I found a large 400pg faux(?) suede journal that was very reasonably priced and picked up various calligraphy supplies including a strange little brush pen. Apparently the brush pen is supposed to be for water but can be filled with anything and cleaned out. It seemed neat so I picked up a small one. There was also a cartridge brush, but it wasn't refillable. Since the guy had already finished ringing in the sale while I was looking at it, I didn't get it. :P

Next we started the hunt for Pudding Yarns. I completely forgot to write down the address, but didn't think we'd have too much trouble finding the place. Wrong! We wandered around a few blocks trying to find it and eventually stopped by Reid Stationers for a while. There I found some Herbin bottled ink (yay!; picked up a few colours), and a calligraphy set for the female sibling unit. She's going to try it again by the looks of things. :P We asked if the sales clerk by chance might know where the yarn shop was but she didn't. She tried looking it up in the phone book, but it's too new to be listed apparently. >_< So, after wandering one more block, we stopped by an internet cafe and found the address that way. (They only charged $1.50 even though min is $2). There's little wonder that we never found it! The name is written very small and the windows are all tinted very dark. We walked right by it 2 or 3 times!

Pudding Yarns... I've read one person's blog and they really liked the place, but personally I like Knit One, Chat Too much more. They had some interesting yarns, but nothing that struck me as truly unique. We picked up some wool and some Uruguay merino wool that I liked. I also saw some Baby Cashmere that I was curious about after seeing it listed on elann.com. I might order some from Elann (or at least ask the female sibling unit to)... it was really nice and soft. ^___^

After Pudding, I felt like there was one more place we wanted to go but couldn't remember where. The female sibling unit commented the only other place in the area was the soap making shop and she had enough supplies for that so we went way up north for office supplies instead.

Yesterday evening, poor female sibling unit had some typing work to do only to run out of typewriter ribbon. So we ended up hopping down to Office Depot (I got dragged along) and bought a new typewriter. Female sibling unit had been threatening the old one with various means of destruction beforehand, and no one carried ribbons for it, so... we got a new one. And when we got back, the poor female sibling was on the warpath against the new typewriter. Apparently it's not only stupid, it's near useless. ^^; So today we went hunting for typewriter ribbons for the old typewriter on the other side of the city hoping they had them in stock. No such luck. We'll have to order either direct from the manufacturer or from Grand & Toy's warehouse. I picked up two more journals that were on clearance at G&T...

And when I finally looked through the various purchases... I discovered that my journal from Mona Lisa suddenly lost all its lines, and one of the other journals I'd bought also had no lines! O_O I'm not sure what I'm going to do with a 400 *blank* page journal. I was hoping to write ff's in it but... >_<; We also remembered that we were supposed to go to Oasis spa and pick up some stuff when we were down on 17th. >_<;; So we'll have to go back down to that area again later (some time before April) and hit Oasis and Mona Lisa again. The sample, unwrapped journal I'd originally looked at had lines, but the wrapped one I picked didn't have lines. Oops. I wonder if I'll be able to stay good next time too. There were some really nice papers I was eyeing as well as what I'd picked up. ^^;

Otherwise, voting on Monday. Is there any point on voting in this riding?? *shudder*

I rather like writing in blank-page journals. My writing changes quite a bit with my mood, and without the lines, it's free to do that. Then again, you want to write stuff that you'll actually use, as opposed to my bullshit angsting that I never want to see again.

Wow… a typewriter. O.O

OhIwantthenewchapter! Where oh where is my Tardis when I need it?!

*laughs* Given how prone I am to write things in margins and add things all over the place, not having lines would make things near unintelligible. ^^;

^^;; Spooky isn't it? Unfortunately, one set of government forms we often have to fill out here is in PDF format, and we haven't been able to modify them to fill in the info. I'm not sure why. :-?

*laughs* Yep. IIRC, Peru has a number of really good yarns. ^___^

Hmm... I'll have to double check the paper and see if it's possible. I was going for a heavier bond paper in the notebook, but... if that's what needs to be done... ^^; Cheers!
