Ch 119 Summary

November 21st, 2005 (01:29 am)

Okay, so I lied a bit. :P The summary for chapter 119 is now up on the site. Poor Kyo. T_T Poor Tohru!

And while writing the summary stuffs, a strange thought came to mind... Kyo's memory of Kyoko was her lying on the ground after being hit and thrown by the car, while Tohru's was that of her mother in the hospital. Did Tohru and her mother ever get a chance to ever talk again. And is it just me, or did Kyoko maybe realise that Kyo was there behind her?

From the distance between the two, and the rest of the people, it would've been an utter miracle if Tohru's mother was the only one injured / caught in that accident.

Anyhow, back to work tomorrow so I guess that means no more waking up at the weirdest of hours any more. :P

I don't think Tohru got a chance to talk... :\ It seems like she never got to say anything, that's why she, too, feels guilty because she never said anything and before she left she never said "come back safe". o.o; Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't know.

She may have realised. :o I think more then just her would have been injured, but I don't think Natsuki Takaya would tell us because, well, it's not important. xD

(Btw, I added you. xD Just thought I'd let ya know! I'm a crazy Furuba fan, too. :))

Possible. You're talking about what she told Shigure and not telling her mom "itterasshai" IIRC, which I equate more with "have a good time/day". I'm not sure if that precludes their ever speaking again. It's certainly possible that it does though.

I was thinking more in terms of the image we have of battered and bruised Kyo around the time of the accident back during the recount in the seaside story. (Can't remember the exact chapter but I remember it started with the image of him bruised, around a small dandelion). IIRC, Komaki's father was killed instantly but I don't remember if she said anything during that account of Kyoko (let alone if she would've known).

Basically that scene makes me question Kyo's conviction that he chose between himself and Kyoko's life or if he chose between both their lives. When writing up the summary stuffs, what came to mind was that scene at the lake-side property (think Jason-kun) when Tohru slipped and fell and both Yuki and Kyo grabbed her only to transform and Tohru still ended up falling taking them with her. Except in the case with Kyoko, while teenage Kyo survived the accident battered and bruised, transforming into a cat would not only have given his secret away, it would also be a lot more injurious to a small cat. (Monster Kyo would create a bunch of different problems) :P

The other thing about it (and I may well be reading too much into things) is his thought on pulling Kyoko into his arms ie. holding her. Not just pulling her out of the way or anything, but holding her to protect her/keep her safe. Sort of a question of chivalry or he still knew she'd get caught up in the accident but would survive from where he'd stood.

Oooh... I see what you are saying.

Yea, if he would have saved her and turned into a cat, he would be even more injured then he already was, i'm sure... Also being in cat form, he could have died somehow, maybe...

They where standing very close, in the picture that was shown in this chapter, it was said that the car was going full-speed, since Kyo had been injured from already just being there and not doing anything about Kyoko, what if he had taken the time to grab her? They both might not have been out in time... :\ Meh, I don't know. ^^;

Heh yeah. That's the problem, hindsight is ever 20-20 but when it comes to blaming yourself in something major... >_<

It's not just you, Kyoko totally realised he was behind her, IMHO. For some reason, Kyoko casts a glance on her side just before she crosses the street. And she sees Kyo, I'm sure. Takaya wouldn't have let this tiny detail appear here for no good reason. So she sees Kyo.

Now what does it implies ? Is it because he knows she saw him before she died (and thus realised he might have helped her but didn't), that he's worried sick over her reaction in learning he has feelings for her daughter ? You know, when he has this dream back in volume 15 (IIRC), and he pictures Kyoko saying to him something like "I will not allow it !" (don't recall what her exact words were).

Anyway, that was a great summary, as always. I especially loved the little side notes, (you know, for the translation of 'Jari' and 'omae'). I'm such a fan of little side translation notes. XD

But boy, was it depressing. I'm working on the French translation right now and I'm feeling terrible. Poor Kyo. Poor, poor Kyo.

I think you're talking about that nightmare Kyo had and Kyoko says "yurusenai" (I won't forgive you / I won't allow it). That nightmare is something of a mystery as well isn't it. Is it just Kyo's subconscious (ie himself) blaming himself or is it partially rooted in reality ie. Kyoko actually said something to him after being hit. >_<

I'm not sure how many more mystery scenes are left if any? There used to be so many little unknowns but just about all (if not all) have since been explained. The series is definitely winding down in that sense. ;_;

Re: abt the translations

*does a quick check* Just about everything on the site should be back up except for the Ghost Hunt section as mentioned a few days back since I need to change things in there. From what I saw, Tsubasa wo... and FB are both up otherwise. (Don't know if the temp stuffs I'd done is still there or not but those were temporary). In any case, GH was taken down to change things since the series has since been licensed and is being released by Del Rey.

somethings dont fit at all!

i read your summary(excellent job there!) and, like you i have also seen the scans for chap119.i just think that there are so many glitches.like you mentioned, the distance between Kyo and Kyoko was too small,there was no way that Kyoko could have been the only victim in the crash, Kyo and the people around her should have sustained minor injuries atleast, but in the scans i clearly saw that she was the only one hurt and all the others didnt even get a scratch.
i dont know what the broken and injured scan of Kyo means,the one which has been shown to us earlier, but surely he did not get those from the accident.
another glitch is that Kyo could have saved her without actually holding her, he could have just shouted at her,or thrown her out of the cars way on the sidewalk by pulling her hand.
another thing that i noticed that, during the time of the accident Kyo doesnt look 16, he looks like he is 18, the art is seriously wrong,Takaya-sensei should have drawn him the way she did at the beginning of the manga.
