Ch 119 Summary trans

November 18th, 2005 (09:35 pm)

Looks like at least one blog I usually read has written up a summary and their thoughts on the next chapter and it's sounding pretty painful. By the looks of it, the chapter picks up where 118 left off, with Tohru trying to tell Kyo how she feels about him.

Kyo asks her straight if she likes/loves (suki) him to which Tohru blushes, and Kyo says: are you stupid? I didn't think you were that stupid.

Kyo then goes outside and Tohru goes after him barefoot.

Kyo then starts to tell her something that he didn't want to talk about, didn't want known, and didn't want to acknowledge.

Shortly after Kyo was taken in by Shishou, apparently he still didn't feel comfortable going straight home and wandering about a bit after school, met Kyoko whose workplace was nearby. And every now and again, he'd go and see her. It seems that Kyo seemed to like Tohru from what Kyoko told him about despite never having met her.

Then the incident when Tohru got lost happened. Kyo tries to comfort Kyoko who's crying and upset.

"Pull yourself together. I will find her. You wait at home! I will save her! I'll protect her! A man's promise!!"

But in the end, despite trying his hardest to find her, it was Yuki who happened upon Tohru and helped her.

When Kyo saw the hat in Kyoko's hands, he knew it was Yuki who'd saved Tohru.

Kyo calls Yuki a rotten guy and Kyoko tries to gently admonish him but Kyo instead says: Are you also going to take his side?

As Kyo runs away, Kyoko yells after him to keep his promise. Apparently it seems Kyo didn't see Kyoko after that until the day of the accident.

On that day, Kyo wonders to himself if he should say hello when he realised a car was approaching at high speed towards Kyoko. But if he pulled her to him and held her, he'd transform...

And so in the end, he was unable to save her. And Kyo's confession continues. He'd put "himself" and her mother's "life" on a scale and chose "himself".

He's always running away, and he hates his being like that.

From the rest of the comments, apparently the reader couldn't tell how Tohru felt about Kyo (she did have tears in her eyes though). Otherwise, they postulate on Akki barging in at Shigure's and Kyo possibly holding up his promise this time, that maybe Yuki and Shigure will finally show up... and there were also some comments that if anyone saw a person, barefoot in a kimono running down the street with a knife in hand, they'd probably call the police. ^^;; While interesting, methinks that might sidetrack the story. :P

Anyhow, back to 118 for me. :P

Aw, Shadow, thank you thank you thank you thank you SO MUCH !

I had read a summary before this one, but didn't quite catch Kyoko's comment about the promise. Now it all makes sense.

So, he finally told her. (AND we finally get to know about the K/K connection, God I was dying to know what it was all about). I wonder what Tohru's reaction will be, though... Agh, can't believe we have to wait for another 4 weeks to see how it all pans out ! T-T

I can see Kyo's mad at himself for being a coward and preferring to save himself rather than Tohru's mom's life in the past.

Well, chances are he's going to have a brand new occasion to protect Tohru in a very near future...

Am I the only one fearing for Kyo's life here ?

It sounds like a really sad and dark chapter. T_T The promise, from the summary I'd read, Kyoko said "'yakusoku' tsukene!" 「“約束” ツケね!」which is something like "Promise" add-on / after, okay?"

I'm also curious if Akki will find her way to Shigure's now that she figures that the 12shi would likely go to Tohru as they're freed and possibly their hearts go there even before. Will Kyo uphold his promise? Will it be necessary to do so? Will Shigure and Yuki actually show up?? :P Too many questions, and a long four weeks to wait. >_< :P

*laughs* Kyo's certainly been doing his best to push Tohru away while still projecting how much he likes her. ^^; Shall see how things go next chapter... in another month. T_T

akito and yuki - days go by

Aw, poor Kyou. But I guess one of the major themes of Fruits Basket is to value yourself.

It would be funny if Akito got arrested. I wonder who she would call to bail her out of jail?

Thanks for the summary!

LOL! I have to admit, I'd love to see what Akki would do if she got arrested. Afterall, she did just stab someone so there must be trace evidence (assuming most of the stuff gets washed away by the rain). It sure would be quite the wake-up call. ^^;;

Akito lookin' pretty (kawaiiayu)

*sniffles* Poor Kyo-kun.

But that explains all the massive guilt he feels. While not directly responsible for her death, he still feels somewhat responsible for "allowing" her to be hit. Also I guess this means Kyoko was a pedestrian and got hit by Komaki's father...

I Think Tohru is the type of person who, after seeing justhow much guilt he carries, will still be able to forgive him. That's just the type of person she is.

Yeah. It's really hard to say just from a written summary what the scene was like (if shown in the manga) let alone if Kyo pulling her to him would've saved her. In the scene where Shishou pulls Kyo to his feet when remembering that time, Kyo was pretty battered. It's really hard to say what would've happened and if it mightn't have caused his own death as well. It also gives a dual meaning to his living thanks to the lives of others / sacrificing others (originally in reference to the juzu beads). ^^;

Kureno -- stars (flamika)

Yeah, 'cause even if he'd transformed, a cat is pretty small and he stillwould've been powerless todo anything if the car had kept on coming. In fact, it might've killed them both (as you mentioned).

But now I think back to when they visited Kyoko's grave that one time and how Saki could sense these regretful feelings coming from him. That must've really been hard on him.
