GH Novel Re-write Release!

October 2nd, 2010 (11:30 pm)

current mood: happy

Looks like they're finally coming out! ^o^ They're set to be released every other month starting in Nov and will continue for a total of 7 volumes. Official website for the new re-release can be found here.

The novels aren't being released by Kodansha but by Media Factory Inc. (FWIW, new SSs for 12 Kokuki has been coming out in Shinchosha's YomYom magazine.)

The new titles for the novels are as follows:

Ghost Hunt 1 Ghost Story of the Old Schoolhouse (Nov 19th release)
Ghost Hunt 2 Doll's Cage (Jan 2011)
Ghost Hunt 3 Girl's Prayer (Mar 2011)
Ghost Hunt 4 Dead Souls Game (May 2011)
Ghost Hunt 5 Maze of Freshly-Spilled Blood (Jul 2011)
Ghost Hunt 6 It Came From the Ocean (Sep 2011)
Ghost Hunt 7 Open the Door (Nov 2011)

Can't wait to see how the re-written version is! ^o^

G-GH NOVELS BEING REWRITTEN? WHOA! Does that mean that there's a chance that Ono-sensei will continue the series too? *though, seeing from the list, it seems that the novels are only being rewritten until the last story when Naru returns to England...?*

^^; We can always hope. I'm hoping that things will continue again once all the re-writes have been released. 12 Kokuki also went on a long hiatus and has recently started showing up on occasion in YomYom, so... I'm hoping. :P

Re-written by who? Great news but still useless to those of us who can't understand enough to make it worth buying. *sigh* Nice birthday (mine) present though.

Can dash all hope of anything new after the 7th one?

Thanks for the news. Kodansha page, 12th volume release, seiyuu comments are up... those are new right? They're not text so couldn't cut&paste to get a crappy translation.

Re-written by Ono Fuyumi herself. :) Ouch true, although the original GH novels weren't too difficult IIRC. It was the first novel series I ever read and my kanji back then was pretty laughable. It was more towards manga reading level than light novel IMO (in terms of kanji reading). The question is how will the new series be in that respect.

No idea if she'll start writing new material again for GH after everything's out or not. 2ch was equally unsure as people are wondering how things were re-written and whether anything from her doujinshi stuffs will be included etc. The new books are larger format and more expensive than standard tanks though.

The cast comments are new for the last part. I haven't read through them yet (don't often read those things. :P ) I'll take a look and see what I can glean for you.

Oooh, that's good. Wouldn't be right if it was by someone else.
Sadly all I know is what I've learned myself and that hasn't progressed at all in many years so I'd be pretty lost even if the new ones remain at that sort of level. *goes hide in a corner*

Wonders if she'll shift them to 21st century... all the new technology Naru could play with ^^

Well she's got a year to think about it whether to attempt anything more (fingers crossed).

Yuki Tai's (he needs more roles!) at least I'd like to know please (and the others too but will take anything ^^). Doomo.

Does that mean she did rewrite them, or that they're just being released again?

Will they be translating them into English, do you know?

According to the banner on the site, they've all been rewritten and are being released as the "Ghost Hunt" series. Hmm... The announcement on the blog says that the series has been greatly re-written/polished and will be republished by Yuu books. It also says that there will be a GH feature in their Dec. issue (Nov 6 release) of Da Vinci magazine.

Unfortunately, I have no idea about an English translation since they only recently (Oct 1) announced the J release. We can hope, but I don't know how common light novel licensing is these days. :/

Exciting news! Will have to coordinate buying them with when the Kaze Hikaru tankoban are released! (Wish we lived closer to a Japanese bookstore.)

Ooo....It's very tempting to order them and try to read them. Maybe I can finally learn how to read Japanese this time around.

gh_naru mai head shots

Well now. If that isn't exciting news. If they really are being completely rewritten, I hope she moves from first person to third person limited narrative. I found the first person narrative tiresome to read for a whole book. First person narrative may have a different effect in Japanese, I realise. I know several other series have used first person as well. So it may be more common over there.

I'm surprised that the publisher is Media Factory. I didn't know they did anything but animation. I confess total ignorance on this subject. >_>

Thank you for letting us know. I hope you'll pass along any more news you learn about this wonderful event.

Well that's unexpected and I'm excited to see what changes/stays the same. And it does explain a few comments made over the past few years about her returning to an older series, just not in the way everyone was hoping/expecting.

OMG, I'm so happy, right now! She did say before she was reworking some light horror novel she did a while back, and I was hoping it was Akaryu *o* Thank you for sharing the knews - must inform my brazilian friends ASAP!

Even though it's uncertain, this news made me hope she'll write some closure for this series, haha~.

Hi there! Sorry for the late reply. ^^; Feel free to add me.

I'm not entirely sure why the series was rewritten, but suspect part of the reason might be because they're being released by another publisher. More telling will be what, if any, real changes happens to the original story. ^^;

Not sure what if anything's happening with those. They've always been treated as being rather separate from the original series. Might have to wait and see how things go in the rewrite before we really know how those last two books will be treated. We can always hope for the series to continue now that the rewrite is being released. ^^;
