Intrigue (Shoujo Light Novel Ranking Figures)

Every now and again, I go hunting for the novel ranking figures over on 2ch to see how shoujo novels do. When I do, I usually check out the weekly rankings, but the monthly rankings are sometimes interesting to see, too. I won't bother reposting the entire list, but here are some of the numbers that have come up for Oct. from 7&Y. (Oh, if anyone wants to see the whole list it's towards the end of this thread.)

51 Saiunkoku Monogatari Kuraki Tasogare no Miya (pre-orders)
123 Hakushaku to Yousei Shiroi Tsubasa wo Tsugu Kizuna (Primarily pre-orders; 2 days post release)
174 Migawari Hakushaku no Kokuhaku (Oct release)
208 Inori no Ito wo Yori Musube (Shounen Onmyouji - Oct release)
380 Yasashii Ryuu no Koroshikata memorial (Sep release)
2185 Saiunkoku Monogatari Kouryou no Yume (May release)
2293 Hakushaku to Yousei Tsukinaki Yoru wa Kagami no Kuni de Tsukamaete (Aug release)
2493 Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori Gaiden Saku no Tsuki (Oct '08 release)

Some definite surprises for me in this list. First, unsurprisingly, Saiun makes a very strong showing even though pre-orders have only been open for ~1-1.5 weeks at this point. (FWIW, it's the #1 selling book on 7&Y right now.) To give this some perspective, Sep pre-order sales rankings for Shounen Onmyouji and Migawari (~full month) were #28 and #29 respectively.

Shounen Onmyouji is one of Beans's top three titles (along with Maoh and Saiun). So for Migawari to have a higher ranking for monthly sales than Shounen Onmyouji here is rather surprising. The weekly sales over at Osakaya have consistently had Shoumyou significantly higher than Migawari, so this might be particular to 7&Y. (Nice to see the previous HakuYou and Saiun titles hanging in there despite have been out for some time.)

Actually, here are the weekly numbers (latest week 10/19~10/25) for Migawari and Shoumyou from Osakaya:
251 104 *21 **3 Shounen Onmyouji Inori no Ito wo Yori Musube
432 333 *72 **4 Migawari Hakushaku no Kokuhaku

And perhaps most surprising for me, especially since I didn't even know there were any light novels out there for them, would be Anatolia Story. Doubly surprising is seeing a title on the list after a full year! O_O;; Having taken a quick peek over at Amazon regarding the gaiden books, they seem to be primarily pre-manga series stories. Not sure if I'll go for them or not therefore. ^^;

It'll be interesting to see the weekly figures when they get posted (soon I expect). ^_^

Oh! And there was a comment on 2ch that the next HakuYou might not be out for a while (based on the After Word in the latest novel). No idea as to what's said or what have you, but I'm guessing there might be a SS compilation in between and the author does have another series that she's writing for but hasn't released a new vol for in over a year now. ......As long as this novel doesn't end on such a cruel cliffhanger as the latest Migawari novel, that's fine. I can live with that. I just don't know how well I'll survive until the next Migawari main novel release. :P
