Not a Heck of a Lot

October 27th, 2009 (01:35 am)

current mood: bored

Take too long and... 'sold out'. Whoops. ^^; I did find another system (an Acer) similar in specs to the HP but it's still a pre-order item. I'm not sure but it might have a monolingual keyboard...? Will have to look into that more.

Otherwise, no news yet about HakuYou's latest novel. Hopefully soon since I'd like to know if it's worth getting right away or not. (Ah well. I don't think I would've wanted to have put off buying the last Migawari novel this long. ......Although it might've been better to do so since I would've had less time to wait for the next volume then. :P )

And I finally got around to reading the Vampire Butler (ヴァンパイア執事) light novels...

Vampire Butler (ヴァンパイア執事) series by Iri Satsuki
Published by Ichijinsha

Book 1
お嬢様と血の密約 (The Young Lady and the Secret Blood Pact)
The principality of Sicilia follows the sun faith Solarais. The blessed girl Leyla who has the ability to call the light of cleansing to her hand has a secret that must not be discovered by those around her. Leyla's butler Darius is a vampire who can go live in the sun's light. And Leyla was giving Darius her own blood. One day, Leyla and Darius came upon the scene of a murder committed by a vampire, and killed the female vampire that was there, but...

Book 2
お嬢様と幸福の人形 (The Young Lady and the Doll of Good Fortune)
The principality of Sicilia follows the Solarais sun faith. The blessed girl Leyla gives her own blood to her butler Darius who is a vampire. One day, a doll said to bring good luck is stolen from an evening ball Leyla's attending. Around the same time, a number of incidents of people falling victim to a mysterious toxin. Leyla and the others investigate the two incidents, but...?! Leyla becomes aware of her feelings for Darius. Meanwhile, Darius is unable to hide his distaste of her potential fiance...

Quite frankly, my impression of the first novel was kind of 'meh' (too 'oh, woe is me' without substance), but the second novel was more interesting. There are only two books to this series at the moment, so I'm not entirely sure I want to follow it yet or not yet. Of course, I suppose it'll also depend if there's any more to be published for it, too. ^^; FWIW, the characters, the setting, and the concept is relatively decent. The execution...... ^^; I have to admit, I was seriously cringing at times as it felt like it'd been written by a Jr. HS student. (Especially in the first novel with it's short sentences 'telling' and not 'showing' the story. Much less so in the second one. The semi-ero scenes (both books) where Leyla lets Darius drink her blood, on the other hand, is much more detailed and well-written...) More than anything, I think I got taken in by the cover art and the title. :P

Ah well, it was a quaint diversion. Now to figure out what to read next. ^^; Either that, or I really must sit down and plan what's happening for NaNo. >.>

Perfectly understandable. The art is gorgeous.

Isn't it though? I'll admit that pretty art is more likely to grab me and prompt me into checking something out. ^^;

Humans are strongly driven by visual cues. Pretty art is a good motivator.

Considering the series started earlier this year and all, I would seriously doubt it at this point. If the story were much stronger, perhaps someone might take an interest in it, but at the moment, I don't see it as being anywhere near as strong a title as (for ex.) Migawari.

I see. That's sad. Maybe in the future someone might translate this. ^^
