Quick Q re comments

September 28th, 2009 (12:55 pm)

current mood: confused

Has anyone ever had a comment not show up on their journal? I received an email notice about a comment a couple of days ago, but I can't find it on the post. (The comment should still exist since it's listed in my LJ inbox and is anon.) I thought it might be a temporary glitch, but it's not fixing itself. FWIW, commenting isn't screened on the post or anything like that, so that shouldn't be an issue for it. *confused* Thoughts / suggestions?

I had that happen once or twice to me. I finally decided that the poster had gone in and deleted their comment from my LJ before I had a chance to read it. The email notifications & LJ inbox notice had already gone out, so the poster couldn't pull those back. But when I went looking for the comment on the post itself, it wasn't anywhere to be found.

The thing is that the comment is anonymous, so the poster shouldn't have been able to delete it. (Not to mention LJ's inbox indicates when a comment has been deleted by the poster.) That makes me think there might be a glitch in the database. Still, it's good to know that I'm not necessarily alone. ^^;

Nope, can't say I've ever had that happen here (but facebook would be a whole 'nother story).
And off topic question. Okay, more than one to be honest. I just saw Ghost Hunt and I remembered a couple of your posts mentioning Ghost Hunt at one point, did you do translations of the novels? Since I'm guessing that the anime didn't cover everything (it felt like it was missing an arc or two at the end) and I don't want to resort to Wiki if I don't have to (since that would take all of the fun out of it). Also, is it still ongoing? The teeny bit I read on Wiki seemed to suggest it finished in the 90s but I thought I saw you post about a C.D. drama... yeah, I'm confused!

Cheers. ^_^

I've done snippets from the novels (and a few corrections for the manga), but I don't think I've touched much on the White Heart novels (Akumu). FWIW, the manga is still ongoing and will probably end at v12 (next year), but the original novels ended way back in the 90's. Manga v11 (J) came out recently with the first part of a special CD drama for the final (Akuryou) case The Lost Children. Akumu is the novels that was published under the White Heart label and is in third person, while the original Akuryou series was published under the Teens' Heart label. It's the Akuryou titles that was licensed for manga release.

As for what I've translated... I think most of it was sometime after the fansub project ended. So, maybe around March or April '07. Might be better to check for various tags instead since things really are all over the place on this journal. ^^;

So wait, we still are talking about Ghost Hunt right? If I understood right, there are two series, the original of which ended back in the 90s and another one, told from a different point of view and which is influencing the manga, that is still ongoing? Are they both canon?

Yep, still talking about GH. Hmmm... I think you're a bit mixed up. There are two novel series: the original Akuryou / Evil Spirits series (published in Teens' Heart) which was followed by the Akumu / GH novels (published in White Heart). Akuryou ended in 1992 while Akumu was published in 1994. The manga is supposed to only cover the Akuryou series. Akuryou is in first person from Mai's POV while Akumu is written in third person. Akumu has no influence on the manga since the manga is based on the earlier series. The original series ends in mid-late Aug. The Akumu novels start in... Oct IIRC. Both series are canon with Akumu literally being a continuation of the original series. Unfortunately, Akumu is on indefinite hold and nothing has been published since 1994.

Okay I think I got it now, funny that the anime would be called Ghost Hunt if that actually refers to the later series (since the anime was definitely Mai's POV).

Except that the anime was based on the manga which took the name "Ghost Hunt" for its title while stating it's based on the Akuryou series. I think the two ("Akuryou series" and "Ghost Hunt") were being used concurrently around when the manga started being released thus linking the two together as being the same thing. If anything, at least "Ghost Hunt" makes for a proper title. The same can't really be said for "Akuryou Series".

spr ghost hunt

It did happen several times to me, but usually they'll magically pop out again randomly. I guess it's really a database glitch.

*laughs* Cheers! I can only hope I find that rubber chicken to wave over the computer and hope that helps or something. I'd like the thing to pop back into this reality. ^^;
