Hakushaku to Yousei Translations

January 10th, 2009 (09:30 pm)

Hakushaku to Yousei / Earl and Fairy
This is a tracking post of the various translations, summaries, and snippets I've done for Hakushaku to Yousei as well as general information for the series. Since I haven't decided whether I'll be posting my translations to my website, and since all of the translations are still drafts and not edited / proofread, I figured this might make things a bit easier to find. (Searching by tags will also be helpful for finding more recent posts. ^_^ )

Are you looking to edit these monsters? I confess the story's not my thing, but I could help out if you're looking for assistance.

^_^ I know this one's not your thing, which is why I've been refraining from bothering you. As it is, I'm not sure how much editing I want done yet. Not so much for the summaries, but I know the translations need work. Spelling inconsistencies and appellation issues are everywhere never mind tense and grammar issues. >.> Will be sure to let you know if I decide to go for editing. ^_^

angelic layer

I downloaded the Bonus Drama CD clip today (from sendspace, the mediafire link wasn't working FYI) and I can't get the sound to play. I see the images (I'm using quicktime on my mac) and the sound is working on my computer, but not for this. Soo, am I an idiot and you didn't upload it with sound or is my quicktime being stubborn and not letting it play?

Hmm... it looks like it's a Quicktime issue. I can't even get image despite updating to the latest DivX codec with it. O_O I don't know if you have another player to try with...? (I know it plays on Realplayer, VLC, Windows Media Player, mplayer, and DivX player.) The other option is that I try converting to a different file format. I'm not sure if I can compile into a format other than *.avi though. (Haven't tried it before.)

Super translation job!

Thank you very much for the hard work! I'm just glad the books are available via fan-translations! If you would like someone to proof them, please let me know, I'd be more than happy to help! (However, speed is not one of my greatest attributes XD!)

I've just finished watching this anime, and I've been looking for novels ^.^ Thank you so much for your translations and summaries!

Btw, are you going to post a summary for "Lured to the Capital for One's Honeymoon"?)))) I can't wait to learn what happened in it ^.^

Re: Awesome!

Nope, no summary and no plans for one at the moment. :P Instead, a translation for the entire volume was posted over the course of a few weeks to my Dreamwidth account ~1-2 months ago and can be found here. I haven't gotten around to compiling and reading through the translations yet, so they're very 'raw' and haven't made it to LJ yet. ^^;

I am really grateful for you making all those summaries and translations!!! Am not sure if it is a good idea to read vol 18 without having read the rest of the novels but I really want to know what is going to happen XD I really appreciate all your hard work and am really, really thankful for that!!!

Confused >_<

Um... I can't seem to find part of volume 6... >_<

I read that the prince's memories is now within Edgar, so what's going on? (running around in circles -_-;)

P.S, I got into a craze by reading all your translations for HakuYou including the ones in Dreamwidth XD

Another thing, what happened in between vol.6-13,15-16? (don't include the 3 short stories if it's too troublesome :) ) I missed a lot of gaps in between...

Re: Confused >_<

Volume 6's summary is only partially complete. More details can be found in the Timeline (WIP), but it's also not complete. Unfortunately, this is a very long series, and these things can take time.

The part about the prince's memories happens in book 10 (London Bridge). Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to writing up about that part. ^^;

I really enjoyed your translations!!^^
Eventhough i can read the japanese novels, somehow I get more feeling reading your works!!
Thank uou for doing this..
Btw, have you started doing the next volume translation??

Hi there!

Depends on what you mean by 'next volume' since I'm all over the place with this series. ^^; I don't know if you found vol 18's translation, but the full translation is over on my Dreamwidth journal. (It was an exercise in mass translation. ^^; ) Otherwise, while I've read v19 (Catch me in the Mirror World...), I haven't started writing it up yet. ^^;

Hehehe, I did find your vol 18 translation and read it!!
It's great!!
And now, I'm reading vol 19 too^^ But still havent finished it yet... Just another 70 pgs to go^^
Are you going to do a translation or just a summary for 19??

Posted by: Shadow (kagedreams)
Posted at: August 21st, 2009 12:12 am (UTC)

I haven't decided which way I'll go for v19 yet. I lucked out when a text file was released on the 'net for v18 which made translating the vol a bit easier compared to working from scans. (Either way, I prefer to have something on the computer to work from since typing one-handed is a royal pain.) ^^;

The first time I watched the anime of Hakushaku to Yousei I couldn't help myself for wanting more but apparently it has only 12 episode, so when i heard that theres a novel I immediately look in the internet. last part of vol. 1 (The Blue Knight Earl and The Island of the Merrow)

Thank you for translating this novel. I really liked this.
Uhmmm... can you kindly give me a site where I can find the last part of vol. 1 (The Blue Knight Earl and The Island of the Merrow), because I don't want to start to read the next volume without reading it.

Confused, but sincerely grateful!

Hello there! I would really like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for translating these light novels for all of us Hakushaku to Yousei fans! I really appreciate your effort and commitment!

However, I'm deeply troubled and confused because I notice that after reading your wonderful translations from pages 161-182 of The Blue Knight Earl and The Island of the Merrow, there doesn't seem to be any link to the next translation called 'Summary' as well as the Snippets from ep6 & 7. As such, I really hope someone can clear my confusion and point out to me which link I should click to continue reading the light novel translation.

On the other hand, I suspect that you've only finished translating pages I mentioned above just recently and you've decided to focus on translating volume 19? Correct me if i'm wrong, but am I suppose to skip all the content from the first book all the way to volume 18?

Please help me, and once again, thank you for your translations!

Re: Confused, but sincerely grateful!

FWIW, I haven't finished translating 'The Blue Knight Earl~' chapter or the rest of vol 1 yet, so if you want to continue reading, things do jump a bit there. The rest of vol 1's links will go up as the translations are done. However, you should be able to click the links for v2's summary (only the one post) and the various snippets for v3 (see original post).

Things take a major jump to v17 because that's pretty much where the series was when I got interested in it, so I've been working essentially from both ends: the beginning, and where it was when I started doing all this. Unfortunately, it's going to take a long time to bury the middling gap since it's so big (and I seem to write up just about everything in those 'summaries'.) Hope that clarifies things for you! ^_^

Re: oh my goodness! this rawks!

I am hoping to eventually do summaries of the books in between. Basically, I've been working on things from two ends - from the beginning and from where the story was when I got interested in the series.

Chapter 10

Thank you for the translation in English of novels of Hakushaku to Yousei. I don't understand japanese and it seems that the novels in English are not sold. So without your great work I couldn't read the stories. But I can't help wanting reading book ten which seems very important. Do you know if there is somewhere a summary or a translation? Thx again.
