Lost in purgatory hell

June 30th, 2007 (12:19 am)

current mood: lethargic

No I'm not back yet. The computer I ordered has gone through a couple more delays and the new date is mid-July onwards I think. From what I understand, the low-res version started shipping last week and a couple of people have posted about receiving their systems from Sager. I'm not going with the Sager name (same computer, different shop), but at least their systems are starting to ship. The current ETA for the high-res screens to reach North America is the first week of July. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be in the first round of shipments but am hoping to be in the second. If I'm in the third, it could be a while. ^^;;

Otherwise, the Asus Eee was also announced on the Canadian Asus site, so we might be seeing it released over here as well. The 7" version is supposed to be released in August (late Aug?) and I'm seriously thinking about getting it with an 8GB drive (maybe 16, but that's probably overkill for what I want it for). IIRC, the specs for the Eee were listed somewhere as a 900MHz Dothan, 4/8/16 GB flash-based HD, integrated graphics, 512 MB RAM with 1 slot free. (I'm not entirely sure what to make of the processor since my old system came with a Dothan proc and it supposedly started at 1.5 GHz when they came out ~3years ago. Still, it'll be able to handle internet and basic tasks easily enough). Listed battery-life is 3hrs so realistically 1.5-2 hrs. ^^;

The reason I'm really interested in it, other than it being such a tiny thing for ridiculously cheap, is that it comes with a stripped down version of Linux for the OS even though it can run XP. Can we say I just want to buy a system that's not Windows? :P I'd been contemplating the Macbook before the Eee was announced but it's a bit bigger than I really want. :P

Otherwise, I'm seriously starting to go comatose over here. Minimal reading, mostly trying to stay aware of the notebook/laptop insanity (which is a seriously lost battle for me), and playing silly games a la Bigfish. *laughs* Silly games, but they're nicely mindless. I need a new mind and stuff to work on. *sigh* Sadly, I just won't do much work unless it's directly on my own 'puter. >.>

I'd wondered where you'd gone. Good luck getting the system together!

Thanks, I can definitely use it. ^_^ The waiting is *killing* me. >.<;

I understand. When my last computer died I was in the middle of a semester in grad school and teaching. I had one week to scour the market for the cheapest 'puter I could find and go with it.

At least it's still kicking after two and a half years, but it ain't no prize.

Best of luck with a quick shipment.

Yeah. If we were still in the middle of doing subs, I would've picked up anything with a strong enough processor and XP to handle things, but since Saiunkoku was licensed, I figured I could get exactly what I wanted however long it took... I just didn't expect it to take quite this long! ^^;

...wow, that's a long wait on the delivery. But I'm totally with you on the Windows-free computer. *hugs* Hope it comes through ASAP--we miss you!

^^; I have to admit I didn't expect there'd be such a long gap between when a company reveals a concept model and when it becomes commercially available. ^^; I can't wait to get back again! I miss you guys too!

GH - Cabana Boys

*sigh* Still no Shadow return yet.

If you come up with a new project and need a lackey, let me know. June was horrible with so little work and no editing to do. There's only so much knitting I can do before entering RSI-land.

(P.S. Did you see that I posted a GH fic? I point it out because it's just as much your fault as it is Yasuhara's.)

I thought I was to blame.

Don't worry, there's plenty of blame to go around. (Shadow's the one who reminded me about the challenge. You were the one who kept reminding me even when I tried to "forget" about it.)

Believe me when I say I will do that. ^_^ BTW, have you looked at the summer/fall previews that came out in the past while? (I remember seeing two batches of previews with a fair amount of overlap between the two.)

*My* fault? Why thank you! :P I remember you having plot bunnies and complaining about Yasuhara not selling your soul back to you. ^^; I get to go hunting and reading... tomorrow. Now might not be the best time to read any fics. ^^; (Yay! Fic! Any more plot bunnies romping through your brain?)

GH - Mai *shakefist*

Hush! There are no plot bunnies! None. No half-formed epilogue making Lin all cranky and then slightly ashamed. Nopenope. All plot bunnies have been captured, flown to Australia, and released on a plot bunny reserve. No plot bunnies.

Oooops, too quick on the post button. (I have to move fast or the bunnies catch me.) I haven't seen previews. I can has (English) link?

Posted by: Shadow (kagedreams)
Posted at: July 3rd, 2007 06:17 am (UTC)

*laughs* That doesn't sound like "no plot bunnies". More like fleeing for one's life and sanity from the plot bunnies. :P

Oops, no English links. But this one caught my attention. Devil May Cry is up to ep 3 so far, but the other (Ghost Hound--the one I'm more interested in) won't be out until Fall IIRC.

I've zipped a bunch of the other previews. There were two batches of previews and CMs that were put out on Tokyotosho and I got rid of most of the junk (but not all). There might be some overlap as well since I dumped them all into one zip. It can be found at the link below.

That's okay, there's a new movie trailer that was released today... Vexille? Unfortunately it's a movie. It's also futuristic potentially apocalypse style, so... :P

O_o More than I was expecting! I'll check 'em out this evening. Definitely need the distraction. (Your computer woes have come to visit my external hard drive. *wails*)

This gets long. Lalala!
I love to romp!

Some thoughts as I go through. (That doesn't mean I'm not interested in the others. After all, I didn't love Ghost Hunt until well into the series. I'd probably still help out.)

Ghost Hound: Looks like it has potential.

Baccarano: I dunno if it's any good, but the PV sure does its job. I'll be checking that one out for sure.

Doujin Work'll probably get quite a bit of attention, just because of its subject matter. Which is no reason to avoid it, just maybe something to consider when deciding.

Higurashi Kai is the sequel to the one whose full name I can't remember, right? (Higurashi no naka no koro de?) The first season is licensed, which I suspect will make you unlikely to sub it. (?)

Mushi Uta: That's a big bug! O_O (But it looks a little like Sola for some reason, which I like even though I feel I shouldn't.)

Nanatsuiro Drops: LOL! The bishie turns into a stuffy! *snicker* If you're willing to put up with my amusement and snickering and calls for insulin… (C'mon, lookit those eyes!)

{I was going to demand to know if the wmv files were revenge for my mov files, but I see you were all smart and forethoughtful and included avi files. *praises*)

You say, "Unfortunately it's a movie" like that's a bad thing. *puzzled* I'm the one who grumbles about trilogies and stories that can't be told in 1 book. I like beginnings, middles, and endings in packages with bows. (Preferably coherent beginnings, middles, and endings - I've seen the X movie, after all. *twitch*)

Re: This gets long. Lalala!

Well, a number of first eps are starting to come out, so I'll try watching them over the weekend when it's a bit cooler. It's just way too warm today/tomorrow to watch anything or do anything more than lie dying from heat. (Those people who live in places where A/C is (or should be) part of everyday life shall remain silent. :P )

Thanks for the note on Higurashi Kai; it's definitely off-limits.

*laughs* "Unfortunately" a movie because it's seeing a theatre release so I won't be able to see what it's like for some time. ^^; It seems interesting though. :)

*pets* That bites, really. I hope you get your new system soon-- we miss you!

At least your games aren't getting the better of you like Twilight Princess is me. I think I've found a new temple to hate besides the Water Temple (though that one still ranks number one on my list of hated temples).

Don't mind the inane rambling. How are the romping puppies?

Posted by: Shadow (kagedreams)
Posted at: July 1st, 2007 08:37 am (UTC)

*laughs* No, my games definitely aren't getting the better of me. Mind you, it'd be pretty tough for a "hidden objects" type game to do that too. :P I'll have to pick up at least one good game to try out once the system arrives though. From what I'm hearing, it should handle things well. ^o^

The poor romping puppies have been rendered comatose along with me during the long wait. >.< What's worse is that I can't even watch the DVDs for GH at the moment since the male parental decided to give away FSU's TV this/last month. (There's a whole weird bit behind that, but the main thing is that I have no TV to watch things on right now... especially since I have no computer to back me up on the DVD front!) ^^;

Out of curiousity, when you get your new system, are you still willing to share five GH RAW episodes?

Posted at: July 8th, 2007 08:09 am (UTC)

...He gave away the TV?!!! That is sacrilege! ...Not that I *watch* much TV, but ..he gave it away?

Whatever for?

Posted by: Shadow (kagedreams)
Posted at: July 9th, 2007 09:58 pm (UTC)

Yeah, no worries about the GH eps. I take it you managed to find a number of the other raws. ^^; You'll have to let me know which ones you need since I'm not sure if I marked the entry you'd made with the list of needed eps.

As for the TV, male parental decided to buy a 26" flat sceen TV and give away his old TV (27" CRT). However, after a week of fighting with himself, he decided to exchange the (as yet unopened) 26" for a 32" TV. Upon opening the box, he figured the 32" was too big (not to mention he knew there was no hope in hell for the thing to fit his wall unit...) so he decided FSU and I will have the 32" and he'll buy a 26" for himself, so for now, he's stuck the 32" TV in front of his wall unit and given FSU's TV (which is newer and lighter than his) to his friend. When he went to buy the 26" TV, they were sold out and new models would be coming in in July or so, so until he can find a new TV he likes, FSU and I are without. Typically I don't actually watch much TV beyond either occasionally having background sound (usually Food Network), or I use it to watch DVDs. Sadly, I have no way to watch DVDs at the moment unless I use FSU's computer and it'd at least help pass the time until the silly new lappie arrives. >.>

I did manage to locate a goodly portion. ^_^. I'm still in need of 15, 19, 20, 21, and 24.

Food Network! I love that channel!! DVD's? Hmm... *thinks* I *might* remember how to work the DVD player upstairs.... and the piece of crap recorder downstairs; though damned if I can finalize discs.

Parents...they can be so impulsive. My dad jumped at the house in NH a few years back for exercise equipment. *_* How's that for absolutely sad?

Completely unrelated, but we have a large screen TV downstairs and a smaller screen TV up in the loft-- and my dad hogs that one. He's afraid of breaking the one downstairs--especially since it's not under warranty any longer. The one upstairs, however, is, so he monopolizes that one.

Gotta love it, right?

...Hope you get that 32" soon! Sounds like a nice TV!

Cheers! From what I'm hearing, it should be mid-July at the latest for shipping, but I'd rather err on the side of caution. ^^; In the meantime, I'll tie myself into a knot (bowtie, or granny; square knots and worse might be hard to get untangle from...) as I wait. :P
