I have *got* to stop dropping out of the 'net world for stretches at a time like this. >.<; That said, yeah, I'm behind in reading posts and mails... again. (But I did get to read a number of books and play some games until Telus's 'net security started eating BFG's games from FSU's laptop.) ^^; Which reminds me, I should hook up the dying one and pull my emails. It's only been... a month. Eek. :o

FWIW, the system I'm waiting for will hopefully be getting released sometime this/next week. "Mid-June" was the expected shipping date, but final specs still aren't available. >.<; I'm hoping to pick up the Compal IFL90, which is a whitebook/whitebox system, and am waiting for final word on which video card it comes with (nvidia 8600M GS or GT). The thing that scares me about the system is that it's a bit *too* cheap, so I'm a bit worried about build quality. Also, I haven't heard anything about any Canadian shops carrying this system yet, so I'll have to import it from the US. Eek! Shall see. (Good thing the loonie is doing well compared to the USD right now. I hope there are no additional taxes beyond the standard GST for computers...)

That said, during all this wait time, I've run into some rather interesting items. :P Perhaps most notable would be the OLPC. An interesting idea and certainly nothing I'll ever get my hands on (or am extremely unlikely to ever get my hands on), and even if it were possible, I don't think I'd *want* to get my hands on it. :P

On the other hand, Asus has announced their Eee. The target starting price (~$200) is such that I'm thinking about getting one just for the hell of it (if possible). :P I believe it does come with a modem jack and wireless, so it would make for a cute system that you wouldn't be overly upset should it die or be stolen. :P

There are lots of other ultra-portables of course (including the new 10th Anniversary Sony Vaio... *___* ) but these super low-end ones are *so* amusing! ^^;

Anyhow, I'm seriously hoping it'll only be another couple of weeks of brainlessness, but it really depends on when that system actually starts shipping. It could be worse. I'm hearing August shipping dates for Lenovo right now.

Which reminds me, Takaya Natsuki's latest manga should be out now, isn't it? I'll have to do some hunting about it. ^^; I won't be able to read it for about another month unless I can find it online. ^^;;

And... the Canadian government is determined to keep me in country for the next long while I see. I managed to pick up the passport app form only to discover that it's changed from the last time I applied. :/ Now, not only do you need a guarantor, but you also need two references. In a pinch, I suppose I could use FSU's friend since I've known her since I was a kid as well. (Not friends, but we've known one another for aeons). Everyone else I know all live out of city if I'm not mistaken. My uni friends are all in Vancouver or Montreal, and my HS friends are all scattered and I haven't bothered keeping in touch with any of them for... a year? two years? at least. :/ (Friends from after that... the lab moved to BC while I was in Japan so the folks I knew there would probably be there or maybe here, but again, I haven't kept in touch with pretty much anyone. My own fault for being so anti-social. ^^;; )

Oh well. Time to play catch-up again. ^^;;

I created an LJ for it. http://community.livejournal.com/hoshi_wa_utau/

The owner of subafuruba put up the links for the raw scans of ch 1

I'd be honored if you'd join... i'd also give you the option of becoming a moderator for it. If you do, i'd have shadow, subafuruba, and otaku corner as mods on here!!!

The OLPC looks really cool and neat though.

The Asus Eee looks cute, but I have bad luck with small technology. >w<;;

And welcome back to the net. ^^ I feel withdrawal symptoms from being offline after 24 hours nowadays. ;;>>

No good can come of this!

Ooooh, that green and white computer is cute! The Eee looks pretty nifty, too, but I didn't have the patience to wait for the video to end to get to the actual website.

The new manga is out yes. I'm muddling my way through the French right now. O_O

Hope you're back soon! ^_^

hello there! i have a random question - i also live in canada, and i am wondering where you get all your imported manga from! is there a particular site that is best? i have ordered from sasuga books before, and i didn't find their shipping too bad, but i'm wondering if there is something even better! thanks!

Well, my family's over in Western Canada, so for small orders we tend to order from Iwase over in Richmond, BC. They do phone, fax, and I believe e-mail orders, but they don't have online shopping. Basically, you need to know what you want to buy and order those things specifically.

They ship via Express Post for whatever they have in stock, but if they have to order items in, they'll usually get them in by sea (about one month for things to come in). They'll also do subscriptions to things like Hana to Yume or other such manga publications. The other place we tend to order from (for large orders) is Amazon Japan, but they tend to be 20+ items per order. Shipping with them is quite high though. I understand there are other places over in the East if you're in Eastern Canada, but I'm not familiar with the shops or prices. (I've been shopping at Iwase off and on for... 15 years or so I think. ^^; )

We used to go with Sasuga a fair amount, but what with the double shipping and everything (mostly my sister went with them while I did Amazon orders) we eventually cut things down to Iwase and Amazon. I haven't really looked at Kinokuniya in the US, but that might be because of shipping; shipping can really affect pricing.

Thanks so much! I'll give that Iwase books a try the next time I need to order anything! :D
