current mood: starving

Ignore me while I wail over constant hunger. *whiiiiiiiiinnnnnneeee* It seems someone turned off my off switch so I'm constantly hungry and grazing. >.<;; My explanation is that it's spring. >.>

But! Tea! ^o^ Yasuhara-san's such a character. ^^;; I've also included the snippet of the scene just before Bou-san goes into his long roundabout revelation of who Naru is. I guess there are no real spoilers here...? ^^;

Dragging Naru and Lin out for tea: Cutting in from when Mai and Bou-san are having another clingy scene. ^^;

M: "...Yeah, humans are creatures that grow up. Although sometimes they go bad too."

B: "That's what's interesting about people. I like your optimistic attitude, Mai."

"Me too~. I like you, Bou-san~."

Hug the guy. *snuggles*

"You guys are so embarrassing......"

"Ah, Ayako, you're jealous. We'll include you, too. Come here."

"No way."

(M) "You're not honest with yourself. But I like you even though you're that way."

(B) "Me too~."

(A) "Cut that out."

(M) "I like you~"

(B) "You~"

(A) "Stop it!"

"Ah, she's red."

"My, she's embarrassed."

"She is."

"You guys..."

Amidst that commotion, Masako suddenly exclaimed, "Aa".
Yasuhara-san stood.

He quickly opening the screen door, and stepping out, Naru and Lin were about to pass by in front of the terrace. Since the bungalow Naru and Lin were using was a little further in back, they had to pass by here to go to the water's edge.

"......You're just in time. Are you in a hurry?"

Naru looked at him inquiringly, "We're not in a hurry, but we're not completely free either."

"There's something I wanted to ask you. Could I take a bit of your time?"

"Now would be better."

......Something he wants to ask?

"All right."

"In that case, please come in."

"Can we not take care of it here?"

"It's a bit complicated a question. I'm sorry. --Lin-san, too, I'd like to ask you something, so please come in."

Naru and Lin-san exchanged glances. We were doing the same. Just what was going on?

The two quickly went around from the terrace to the entrance.

"Please, have a seat."

Yasuhara-san had us move over and make space for the two of them. He then had Naru and Lin-san sit there, and with a serious expression, he sat down facing them.

"......Now then."

I wonder what he's going to ask?

"Which would you prefer: Darjeeling or Earl Grey tea?"

Naru frowned slightly.

"Never mind tea, your question--."

"Like I said, which would you like? Would you like it hot or iced? How strong would you like it? Would you like some milk with it or would you like lemon? Or would you prefer cambric tea or chai? Or would you like it scented with apple? We have cookies and cold butter cake, but which would you prefer? Would you like both?"

"See, it's rather complicated, isn't it?"

Yasuhara-san smiled while Naru sighed.

"That's your question?"

"That's my question."

At that serious, prompt response, Naru gave a deeper sigh.

"......Anything's fine."

Whoa~. He managed to get Naru and Lin-san out for tea.

"You're good. That's the Echigoya for you."

"Talk about crafty."

"He's the master of pick ups."

And... during tea, Mai gets angry at Naru over refusing to answer any questions about what was going to end up happening under the circumstances...

"It's a waste of time," Naru stated and stood.

"Sometime it's necesssary to waste time in life."

Yasuhara-san smiled as he leaned against the front door.

"Not at all. I just happen to really like this door."

"Would you please move from there for a moment?"

"I'm passionately in love with this door at the moment, so no."

Naru glanced at Lin-san. "We could force our way past."

"It would hurt to have you force your way past."

Well yeah, after all, Yasuhara-san's ribs are still broken.

"I think it'll just make his injuries worse."

"That wouldn't be good. If you made it worse, we might have to call an ambulance. And if I accidentally let slip that Lin-san beat me up, the police would end up coming too."

"In these circumstances, you'd be the assailant."

"That's even worse still," Yasuhara-san said with his patent honours student smile. "Let's do this peacefully. I'd hate to see my brilliant record tarnished, not to mention you'd hate to have everything come completely out in the open because the police came to take your statement, right?"

Naru sighed.

"......I don't think it's something to get so worked up over."

Bou-san smiled wryly. "Well, that's you're assumption. People don't like it when unsatisfactory explanations remain that way, y'know?"

Naru sighed and faced Bou-san. He folded his arms and leaned against the glass partition.

"Five minutes."

"That's stingy. I want 30."

"Fifteen minutes."

Bou-san grinned.

"Okay, fifteen minutes."

Shoumyou - *wai!*

O_O *flail*

*hops up, jumping around the room and squeaking*

OMG! That was the most adorable thing! I don't know who was cuter/sweeter, Bou-san or Yasuhara. *ponders* (Lin broke Yasuhara's ribs? Meanie!) *squeak* OMG!

Was this the thing that Hara had on Naru?

Also - Mai & Bou-san! *ded*

*tacklehug* Thank you so much! *_*

(So, um, yeah. I'll probably be back once I'm able to frame a coherent thought.)

Yasuhara's an amazing character. ^^;

Oops, I should've explained that part better because it's not obvious in the anime. When Yasuhara gets thrown against the cave wall, he ends up breaking some ribs and that's why he was hospitalised for a while at the end of the Yoshimi case. He would've lied if he told the police Lin beat him up.

(......Which reminds me, there's a really cute scene at the hospital once he's released... ^o^ )

Masako's hold over Naru is what he's hiding: his identity. ^^;

GH - Nevermind

Yasahara's darn near perfect except one thing: no Assam on the menu? *disappointed*

Sorry, but now I'm confused - I thought this was the last novel. Did the anime go out of order and the Yoshimi arc is later? Wait, 'cause Mai doesn't know about dream!Naru.

I try to warm up to Masako (I even succeeded a little with Ayako), but then I find out about something like that. It's so immature.

Still hugely a-squee, btw. ^_^ *twirls*

*laughs* Meanwhile I'm happy because I'm a Darjeeling girl. :P

This is from the last volume of the Evil Spirits series. The Yoshimi arc occurs just before this one and Naru's in the hospital for 2wks? 3? (I'd have to double check that one). Basically, Naru has the choice of going along with things and letting Bou-san reveal his theory about who Naru is, or he can force his way past Yasuhara exacerbating his broken ribs, have Y lie to the police that he was beaten up by Lin-san, and having what he's trying to hide (his identity) revealed anyway.

Dream!Naru's identity is revealed... a little after this scene (same day?)

Yuki & Ayame

Wow, the more I think about this, the angrier I get at him about the Blood-Soaked Maze (and I was already pretty mad about that - exposing the team to danger unnecessarily like that).

Darjeeling's yummy, too, and he did have Chai on the list. Also an impressive selection of sweets - can't complain about that. ^_^

Thank you for enlightenificating me!

*blink* ......Hrmm... I think I'll need to explain a bit about that. The anime glossed over some things which could make it seem more Naru's fault than it is. With the Urado case, Naru didn't have a choice about accepting the case. It's said that he did it as a favour to Madoka, but there's more to it than just that as you can probably guess. However, once Madoka's request was fulfilled, the team was supposed to pack up so they could go. That was Naru's order. What ended up happening next though, was Masako's and Ayako's fault.

Ayako wanted to take a shower before leaving and told Mai to buy her time. During that time, Mai and Masako got into their little discussion. Masako knew it was dangerous there, as did everyone, but she still insisted on being off on her own *outside* the room. Remember the rooms themselves were all protected with Ayako's protective charms, so what happened next was really Masako's fault. This case, while ultimately there is "that issue" at the crux of the matter, is one where I find Naru least responsible for the problems at the same time as being the cause. ^^; Where I find him most responsible is with Yasuhara's school and Mai running off on her own like that. He should've said more than he did. The Yoshimi case too, he was an idiot there and put everyone's lives at risk with his actions.

I find Naru's character rather interesting actually. Mad scientist and his attitude aside, he's an interesting combination of extremely capable and very blind. He makes a good mad scientist in that sense. ^^;

One of the things that's interesting is that Naru comes across differently between the novels (both series have different feels), the manga, the CD dramas, and the anime. I think he's a major prick in the CD dramas. He's probably a nice stick in the mud in the Evil Spirits novels, and more of a mixed bag in the White Heart novels. The manga loses out on some of his sweeter moments, and the anime glosses over his personality (everything?) a bit overall. ^^;

GH - Lin

You have a point that he screwed up a lot worse in other cases. And he did tell them to pack up once he was done. I'm just irritated that they're even there, since he went in with no intent of solving the actual (very dangerous) case & could've unmasked the fake in other ways.

Or maybe I'm mad that dream!Naru told Mai to run away from Yasuhara's school but not from that case. (*pets dream!Naru*)

I guess the reason Naru's hiding his identity is in one of those novels, eh? Or is it the thing that's hinted at by Hirota? (*wanders dangerously close to spoilerdragonland*)

I don't dislike Naru as much as my grumbling implies. I think after Mai's beaten some manners & consideration into him, he could be almost a good person.

Hmm... y...eah. If Madoka asks him for something work-related, Naru doesn't have a choice. That's something we missed in the anime compared to the manga and novel. Madoka's initial scene at SPR and Naru's recall to the office. Hrm.

Hmm... Hirota hints that Naru did something, but what if *someone else* did in fact do that very something? Given that, what would happen if Naru's picture were all over the newspapers for example from solving the case at Yasuhara's school? There are other reasons too, but that's one of the main ones.

Hmm... yep, I need to write up more of the end of the Yoshimi case. Especially the scene between Mai and Masako. It's a bit different compared to the anime end. ^^;

Shoumyou - interrobang

What's this?! A reasonable & logical explanation for something that Naru does?! *falls over*

Ack! Poor *spoiler*! *hugs spoiler* Why does he talk to me and say, "Make me spoilerdragon icons"?

Every time you write "I need to write up more xxx", I dance inside. ^_^

Shouryuu and Enki

I've been lurking around here for a while now, and thought it was about time I did the decent thing and thanked you openly for all this wonderful translation work you share with us. Thank you so much! I'm very careful to check your journal every day in case you've released a new episode or any new snippets like this. And with a series like Saiunkoku, even if I download an early release from another group first, I always wait to download yours as well, because yours is the translation I want to keep for future re-watchings. Especially after reading your "rants" about how badly Del Rey translates GH, and seeing your comparisons, I definitely feel very confident that with you I'm getting a good translation. :) And having experience with translating between languagues, I know how hard it can sometimes be to capture the spirit of something as well as the literal meaning in translation, so I'm doubly impressed and grateful to you.

I really want to thank you for these snippets especially. It's agonizing, to really love a story and know that there is more of it out there, but not be able to get it. These little glimpses that you take the time to translate for us are at least a sop to the wounded souls of the obsessed. :)

And I know it's pretty pathetic and selfish to ask this... but I can't help myself... I would be ever so grateful if maybe you could post just the answers to some of the main GH mysteries? I've no right to ask you to do more work, after all the work you share with us for free... but maybe just like, a little list? One liners? I would love to know, for example, the truth about dream!Naru and Naru's identity, even if I never get to see another word of the actual novel narrative.

These snippets are just wonderful. Thank you! Er... I said that already. But they are wonderful! In this one in particular, Yasuhara cracks me up no end. There were many things to love about the creepy Urado arc, but he was probably the best. :)

Yasuhara's great fun. His is definitely one of my faves for GH. ^^; lkk will be posting spoilers regarding GH in the next day or so. Once that's up, I'll probably start working on filling in some of the other mysteries as well. I know a couple of my editors were wondering why Ayako could direct the kuji at someone without problems but Mai couldn't and that does get explained in the novels. There are also some other little things that I'd like to write up (like every person's "secret"--they all have one (except maybe Yasuhara)). ^_^

TEA! I cannot not like characters that like tea! :)

Yasuhara is definitely a match for Naru, wit for wit and one-liner for one-liner. I really like him. Under completely different circumstances, he might even be a better match for Mai, I think.

Thank you!

Yasu is so cool!! That scene is truly perfect. Also the bargaining for time from 5 to 30 mins made me LOL

Also if you ever get time Id LOVE to see bou-san realization of who Naru really is (but it sounds like its long) but thats something Ive wanted to know since I found out who Naru is...

awesome job Shadow, I need stuff like this now since GH is over T_T

Naru's human. ^_^ If you haven't checked lkk's spoiler post, that's a good place to get all the spoilers. ^_^ It'll take me a bit longer before I finish all the plot points for the books. ^^; Naru's identity is revealed in this post

Yasuhara for the win! He owned Naru in that scene.

You know what surprised me most in the scene is how easily (relatively speaking) Naru gave in to Yasuhara.

I just had a thought. We see very little of dream!Naru's personality except through Mai's romantic rose-colored glasses. I wonder though if perhaps Yasuhara's true personality (not his class president super student image but his smiling manipulative side) isn't a bit like dream!Naru's real personality? Maybe that's why Naru caved so easily? He's seen the type and knows he can't win against it in anything other than the psychic phenonmena area?

Of course, I'm talking out of my hat on next to no information at this point. LOL

You know whats funny...I was totally thinking that as I was driving to work today...I started thinking that Yasu is kinda the "nice" version of Naru and then I thought, well...most of us know the "nice" vers of Naru but Yasu would be in the same boat since we see him more then dream!naru...
Naru getting owned is fun to see :D
