Beans Ace Subscription

August 18th, 2006 (11:58 am)
amused

current mood: bemused

And it's official. I've got a 'subscription' to Beans Ace. ^__^ The last volume (the same one I'd ordered from Amazon JP) arrived in today's mail. ^^;; (I'm not sure it's a proper "subscription" since it's a quarterly magazine. However, since they got it, I'm sure it'll be coming in regularly now).

Anyhow, the details for my subscription:

Iwase Bookstore
Japanese price: Y580
Issue price (variable by exchange rate): $10.49 CAD

Iwase orders magazines in by sea so it won't arrive until a month after the magazine's release date. Within Canada, they then ship via Express Post, and shipping prices are listed on their site. I honestly don't know if they'll ship outside of Canada, but they have an email address listed on their site ("company" link), so you can always inquire. Also, when your subscription starts will depend on when you order (obviously). I wasn't sure I'd be getting this issue and was half expecting my magazines to start coming from the next issue.

And the other pretty much official is that I'm off to Japan for 3 weeks from Oct 11 ~ Nov 1. (Tickets should be getting booked today). At a guess, this won't interfere with FB translations, but will mess things up for Kokumono. ^^;

Anyhow, time to hunt down lunch... *hungry*

neee shadow-san,

unrelated question but
umm why did ryuuki take shunshui(probably spelled it wrong) as his personal maid?
was she ever part of his harem? ^^;

I'm not quite sure how to describe Shusui's position in the residence, she's the head lady of the imperial residence - realistically, I think she oversees the running of the residence itself; certainly she's in charge of the other ladies although her "work" sometimes degenerates into shooing Shuuei away as soon as he shows up - much to her disgust. ^^;;

Other than Shuurei, Ryuuki's never allowed anyone into the... women's bower? harem? so no, Shusui wasn't one of his "women" in that sense. (Remember also that he'd been promoting the misconception that he only likes men).

Ryuuki took Shusui as his personal maid for a couple of reasons. One was that after Shuurei left the residence, he'd be able to talk about Shuurei with Shusui. (Shusui's the one who taught Ryuuki how to do embroidery).

The other reason is that, Ryuuki heard that Shusui was constantly being proposed to by various high ranking officials but that she refused them all. When he asked her why, she explained that there was someone she was in love with. Ryuuki realised that Shusui was therefore unlikely to be interested in himself and that, by taking her as his personal maid, everyone else would think that they're spending their nights together. This would then buy him a little time in which everyone would think that he might make an heir with women of his own choosing. Basically, Ryuuki thinks that as long as the people involved (him and Shusui) know the truth, whatever everyone else thinks is irrelevant (and an advantage in this case). He also knows that it'll only buy him a little time before people start chasing after him to take a wife. ^^;

hehe awwwwwwwwwwwww MY POOR RYUUKI!
yeah i guess being emperor does put a lot of pressure on having babies lol
but he wants to wait for Shuurei neee?

I'm guessing the man Shusui loves is Shouka-sama? :)

It is indeed. ^_^ Which reminds me, there's a cute little scene I have to write up from the last issue of The Beans. Poor Shusui. ^^;;

in two words? bloody freezing.

the temperature REALLY changes in october. God knows my case will be chock full o sweaters, wellies and perhaps a thermal. It's further north, AND it's an island. so, it is always subject to wind, rain, and other seasonal shifting.

I am also, sensitive to cold, i don't mind it, but, i am definitely more into heat. THOUGH, i don't think i could live somewhere, where it was hot all year long.

Japan is further south, so i deem you get more autumnal weather there, not winter in october's tail. ;p

Since I'm going in October, I'll be lucky to get any real autumn weather unless I go further north. As it is, I'll be heading south more, so it's going to be fairly warm. ^^; Autumn in Kyoto usually happens in November.

lucky you! ^^ warm weather! sounds absolutely lovely. YOu can think of me freezing my buns off, while you enjoy the sunshine of kyoto. heh.

I am still looking forward to going, i need a good vacation.

hey, btw, did you fansub episode 15? i don't have it, and don't know if i missed it from your journal.

and, thanks for doing all your hard work. so awesome. I am thinking of taking a japanese class, so i can interact more. I using the rosetta stone and watching as much japanese tv (to help with comprehension and whatnot).

i feel like its not enough.

Also, i am feeling like i should take a wee trip to Japan before i decide to move there. IS january/february uber cold? i was thinking that may be a cheap time to go to just scope it out. I am hoping my japanese friend is going to come along. Her family lives in Tokyo and have soo graciously offered their home to me.

I guess, it still won't be as cold as Scotland.

>>IS january/february uber cold?<<

Low rates for going to Japan is from late Oct until March or so with the shoulder season being 1-2 months on either side of that. The weather in Japan really depends on where you go. In Kyoto, the worst temperatures got were around the freezing point give or take. There were only a handful of days where there was either ice or snow on the ground. However, the air's still quite humid so it's a biting cold. Also, if you're in a home (in Tokyo) rather than a hotel, they probably won't have central heating so things get really chilly that way as well. At a guess, Scotland is probably colder. ^^;

Otherwise, ep 15 sub's link:

hime eating kombu

thanks for the link to ep 15. i must have missed that one somehow. ^^;;

and, ironically, scotland does not have central heating, at least most homes don't. There is usually a flatboard heater in each room that you turn on. SO, heat is only turned on in the room you are occupied in. Towards the evening, you turn the heat on in the rooms, so you can have a warm room when you sleep. It's pretty smart. saves energy and money. so, i am used to that. ^___^

my friend Yukiko said, that I probably would do fine during that time, seeing i am used to the colder temperatures of scotland. I am hoping either her or my friend, CHihiro, will join me for a wee trip. THey are looking into it.

and, let's face it, if i do live there, i would have to know what the "winters" are like anyhoo. ^___~

neeee!!! how frequently is The Bean published (that's the one that serializes kokumono novel nee?) (like when's the next one coming out)?

Heya! The Beans is published around semi-annually. It's actually where they publish short stories rather than the actual novel, so there's some interesting character development/fleshing out that happens in there. The next one will hopefully be released sometime during the next month or two. I haven't seen any release info for it yet though. ^^;
