Kokumono 14 update

current mood: blank

Text translation for Kokumono 14 is now up on the site. ^_^ I decided in the translation to keep the term "shinshi" rather than try translating it all the time. It was proving to be quite bulky since I couldn't come upon a good term. Basically it's for those who passed the Kaishi exams. I might go back and change it to "candidate / candidacy" though.

BTW, there's no mention of it so far in the anime but, while the Kaishi is the main National exam, it's not the last. The final exam is the "denshi" exam which is an oral exam and done in the presence of the Emperor. I need to add a bit more to the translation notes on the exams. Specifically about this breakdown and that the Kaishi is administered by the Department of Protocol while the Denshi is administered by the Department of Civil Affairs. The Shinshi Ceremony likewise is not the final ceremony. At this stage, they still have the Department of Civil Affairs Ceremony to go through which will determine where they will be assigned. Until that's done, they can't work as officials of the court.

Now to reply to emails and stuffs... >_<;;

Shadow~Thanks again for posting the differences and details not in the anime and for the very quick translation *hearts*

I think am fangirling Reishin after all. His demands were all beyond reason no wonder Kyoyou(sp?) was like O_O noooooo....XD
Kyoyou on the other hand, I think is seeing himself on Shuurei. His advice on Shuurei was somewhat what he did during his time.. I wonder what Reishin find so unusual on Kyouyou? hmmm...

btw-Shadow, could you please tell me who are the characters on the covers of vol 7-10..Here's the link: http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=30844

I was wondering if the anime will cover the novel up to volume 10..I wish the novel will be licensed asap, I wanna read all the tiny details p_p

oh and before I forget why must Shuuurei be so mean to Ryuuki ;P? waahh... XDXDXD

Hmmm... let's see:

Vol 7: Shuuei, Ryuuki, Shuurei
Vol 8: Kouyuu, Seiran, Shuurei
Vol 9: Ensei, Eigetsu, Shuurei
Vol 10: Ryuuren, Eigetsu, Shuurei

oh and before I forget why must Shuuurei be so mean to Ryuuki

*laughs* I like what she says to him later in this story. Hopefully next ep if they include it. ^o^

umm what does she tell him?
I remember you wrote a summary about
ryuuki kissing her and telling her that if she ever finds someone she wants to marry she has to promise him to let him know (so he'd go over there and kick his ass and steal her away lol)
is that the scene? or is it something else :)

*laughs* The scene I'm thinking of is a really minor one when Shuurei, Ryuuki and Eigetsu have lunch near the archives. ^^;;

Shuurei: You're here again?!
Ryuuki: That's right. I told you I'd guard you, didn't I? I intend to stick by you around the clock. If you call, I'll appear out of nowhere.
S: ---You're worse than a curse. Or rather, I haven't even called and you show up.
R: My mistake. I intend to stick to you. Like glue. So, whatever happens, there's no need to worry.
S: It's what you're doing that's making me nervous!

ouch! why must she be so bitchy to my poor ryuuki! T_____T
i think she's just in denial that she really wants to have all his babies lol
*sigh* sure ryuuki's persistant and a bit pushy with his feelings but what girl wouldn't want him???! lol

S: ---You're worse than a curse. Or rather, I haven't even called and you show up.

That's mean, Shuurei!!! Hmpf!

But Ryuuki in that situation would make me worry for him too, if I were Shuurei... LOLS ♥♥♥

I forgot~ Reishin is the head of the Dept. of Civil Affairs, right? So one more test and Shuurei's on her way to governordome ^-^

Typically no more tests (the denshi was already completed by the time the story begins). Reishin is indeed the head of the Dept. of Civil Affairs. However, since he hasn't properly introduced himself to Shuurei yet... ^^;; Silly goose. :P

Thanks for the translation! That's two weeks in a row that I've read it in class. ^_^ It was during a break, so it's fine.

I think it's fine keeping "shinshi". I like some things being kept in their original - it keeps the flavour for me. As long as it's understandable what it means. ^_^

^^;; The dictionary is a wonderful thing. A lot of this information is written there and many of the terms are specific to Chinese history / government / the exams. Otherwise, the rest is described in the novels. Believe me when I say I'm utterly clueless when it comes to ancient Chinese history / culture.

^^;; One of these days I'm going to have to go through this journal and pull all the bits and pieces I've put here and compile them on the site.

By the way, I hope you don't mind me asking, but is the scene where Ryuuki realises who Seiran is the same in the novel as in the anime? It's my favourite moment, and I would love to know any more details about it...

It is and isn't. IIRC, the content is much the same, but it's taken out of order. (Also, the whole tournament is an anime concoction). In the novel, after Shuurei is kidnapped, Ryuuki defends Seiran saying that he'd never betray either himself or Shuurei, but he has no evidence for his feelings and he'd never felt the need to send Seiran a flower. (IMO, it wouldn't have been overly appropriate either at that stage since Seiran was both essentially a nobody and hadn't been with him long). Ryuuki only realised exactly who Seiran was when Shuuei gave him that note Seiran had written.

The scene where Shuurei and Seiran are talking after they'd both recovered from their injuries / being poisoned, Ryuuki comes to talk to Seiran and Shuurei leaves the room. That's when Ryuuki talks to Seiran about his elder brother. Much of it's the same as in the anime but there's much more background and small details revealed in the novels. Also, Ryuuki had apparently taken the throne only because Shouka asked him to in order to prevent any recurrence of the fight for the throne that had happened previously. I'll see if I can't write up part of that later. ^_^

Do you mind if I friend you? I love reading your comments and thoughts on Saiunkoku, and I wouldn't want to miss anything.

Sure. Feel free. ^_^
