Ep 11 up

current mood: contemplative

Finally finished writing up the draft for ep 11. I'm pretty sure I got it all, but if anyone notices any really weird stuff do let me know. I love Reishin in this episode and the way Reishin and Kijin play off one another is great. ^___^

While I know it really wasn't possible, I still wish we could have seen more of the background for this story. While there's lots of fun stuff, it's also very bittersweet. ;_; I'll see what I can scribble down of Seiran and Shuurei's past memories at least. ^___^

I loveeee yr site! I DLed ep 11 right after it was released, and counted the days waiting for yr translation! Thank you, really!
I was much more eager to read this ep's translation because at the end when Shuurei was looking at Ryuuki's torn cloth, she said sth that seems 2b an important clue to their romance development later. My crappy elementary Japanese only allows me to understand the 1st part (s/o beautiful and kind...), then I was lost :( Ive read yr translation, but never having read the novels I dont understand what Shuurei meant by saying so...can you please explain a little more? thank you!

Short version:

"There are some things where, loving and being loved can't do anything."

Yeah that's right, and I think that's the very reason why I've been running away from falling in love.

--I ---probably can't ---return (your feelings)

...So please, ......don't say that you only love me.

*****

Basically even though they'd gotten close to a degree, and Shuurei suspects Ryuuki loves her (romantically), she can't return those feelings for him, and only has one answer for him if he should ask her to stay with him. (If he demands it... *shrug* - end of story).

thank you

Thank you for yr reply. So does that mean there's some secret that makes Shuurei unable to return Ryuuki's feelings (esp. wiht that mysterious flashback...)
Sorry if im asking too much ^^ and pls keep up yr good work! Well all be cheering 4 u ^^

Re: thank you

Sorry, I wasn't very clear on that original reply. The first "quote" was something that Shuurei's mother had said to Shouka, and it seems to have stuck with Shuurei and she's currently not looking towards any romantic relationships. It could be that that along with the fear of losing anyone important to her may also have resulted in her not looking to create new people important to her to that extent. I don't recall if that has been fully explored up to this point so much as touched on in passing from various characters POVs.

Re: thank you

oh i see!
Im following the scanlated manga up to chap 3 and i have to admit that the anime left out some really good stuff. By the way, in chap 3 of the manga, it is noted that Shuurei is 16 years old when she enters the palace for the 1st time. But in the latest ep the narrator says she is already 18 (i dont remember if they say anything about her age in the 1st ep). So is this just a difference between the manga/novel and the anime, or is it really 3 years passing and the emperor-Shuurei relationship is still going no further than from where it started?

Re: thank you

after posting it struck me that actually Shuurei stayed in the palace for several months (3, isnt it?), and then there was the whole summer while she was working for Kijin...but still, the timeline gets me so confused T_T how come its already been 2 years (not 3, again, my bad T_T)?

Re: thank you

Shuurei's 16 when the story begins. She spends 3 months at the palace for the first story, the second is 1? 2? months later in the midst of summer (I think there was a bit of discrepency between the novel and anime on this point). The illness SS is just before the exams in the new year so not even one year has passed in total, and Shuurei is now 17.

*LMAO* Oh, sweet munki jeebus, that's funnier when the jokes can be understood properly! ;D

Thanks so very much! *worships*

So the pun was the ginger one? It was funny, though subtle. Seiran is still cooler x 100 than Ryuuki, and as it turns out, capable of asserting his princely will even more than his brother. Saiunkoku may have just realized how lucky they are to have Ryuuki on the throne there. ;) Having him order a general and a secretary to cook that way was hilarious! And again, those three make a fine set of friends. :)

Kijin x Reishin: I said before they were very cool playing off each other.

Reishin. At times like this, you're supposed to say "Take care and be sure to come back." - That nearly had me in tears. Shouka can really outdo his brother, can he? No wonder he's such a screwed up uncle.

Speaking of which, there's another Kou brother? Will he show up at some point? Is this the Kou Shogun mentioned in your outtakes from Vol. 6? Come to think of it, are there any arcs coming up where the Haku and Koku Dai Shoguns come into play?

Hrm, Shuurei's mother seems big on teaching frowny people to smile. Definitely, Seiran's come a long way.

I seriously did practise smiling. - Not like that's helped Reishin very much. ;)

You had her drink the master's special non-ginger ginger drink, didn't you? - *foreheadslap* Non-ginger ginger. Is this another one of those puns?

Stick your head in a snowbank until spring and cool off a bit, you eternally spring fool! - Y'know, Shuuei reminds me a lot of Shigure...

Just a minute there, boy! If it's that sort of thing then I too, in another five... - *back to laughing under the table* If it takes five years though, even Seiran might win the race, in spite of himself. ;)

Thank you very much, Your Majesty. No doubt, scrubbing pots will be of some use to you some day. - And that's what makes Seiran cooler than Ryuuki, and definitely a very educational example of an older sibling! (Shouka's not bad either, actually, this is a good episode for a contrast of sibling relationships.)

Great ep! Er, the next one is in a red light district? *manic period Chinese drama love!*

That's the one. I decided against playing with it and explaining it instead. ^^;

Kou Kurou is younger still than Reishin. He should show up at the end of the next story arc IIRC. He's normally out in Kou Province and isn't the shogun mentioned in the snippets. Haku and Koku show up at least in two more novels. We should see Haku at least once, possibly more, in the next story arc and Koku might also make an appearance depending on how they handle it. Otherwise, they don't show up until... vol 7? 8? I'm not entirely sure which but somewhere there. ^^;

*foreheadslap* Non-ginger ginger. Is this another one of those puns?
*laughs* Not quite. Originally Seiran commented about Ryuuki making Shuurei drink the ginger drink Shouka had made and Shuurei says that it didn't taste at all of ginger. Kouyuu then says that there was no ginger and that that's Shouka-sama for you, being able to make a ginger drink without ginger. He'd been trying to preserve Shouka's dignity(?). ^^;;

Er, the next one is in a red light district? *manic period Chinese drama love!*
*laughs* Yup. Parts of this are going to be *very* interesting. ^___^

*laughs* No wonder everyone tries to prevent Shouka from doing housework wherever possible! He's even more dangerous as a housekeeper than an assassin.

Thanks!
