And so, it's now been... 3 months? More? Less? Since I've switched to a high-speed 'net connection and I've finally gone over to the "dark" side and started DLing anime. The title? Saiunkoku Monogatari. (This is definitely all your fault toriru4ever! As a result of your pimping, I've DLed a BT client (will probably change to a different one; I'm not liking this one very much), a bunch of video codecs, and so far have nabbed Saiunkoku Monogatari 1, Jyu Oh Sei 1, and Yume Tsukai 1.

Saiunkoku was interesting although I found the initial story premise a bit... okay a lot of a stretch. It strikes me as potentially cute, fun and interesting or could go downhill to cheesy. Either way, I figure I'll try hunting down some more episodes and seeing how it goes.

Jyu Oh Sei... based on the manga by Itsuki Natsumi (Hana Sakeru Seishounen, Yakumo Tatsu, Demon Sacred, Oz...) I'm pretty sure I've read the first chapter or maybe the first volume of this manga but I never really got into the series. I might try hunting it down again and seeing how the original went. Likewise, (depending on HD space) I might try DLing what else is available for this title. SF is more hit and miss for me, and I'm not sure if I'm really interested in this one.

Yume Tsukai. >.< Definitely aimed at the younger crowd, I found certain aspects rather cringe worthy. Might be cute for younger viewers but I definitely doubt I'd continue hunting this one out.

So, seeing as I've decided to plunge into the murky depths of DLs, any series people would definitely suggest? (Currently on my purchase list is Jigoku Shoujo, Blood +, Trinity Blood, and Det. Conan. I'm DLing Honey & Clover 1 and Kino no Tabi 00 next). Also, any suggestions for BT clients?

Rin & Haru love (hexes_avatars)

The "recent" things I've really liked are the live-action Hana Yori Dango, Nana, Ouran, and Monster (although I'm only halfway through Monster so far) . . .

Thanks! I'll check them out as soon as I clear off some space on my HD. I need a bigger HD... >_<;;

Canadian Borg (maker unknown)

*seconds live action HanaDan*

Honey & Clover is a show with a split personality. I recommend giving it a few episodes before you decide - it's got this ridiculously silly personality, and a very thoughtful one, too.

And I <3 Aishiteru ze Baby. OMG! It is ridiculously cute. Ridiculously. But it's also got some really good characters.

Hi there!

Long time reader, first time commenter. (Sorry about the cyber stalking. ^_~) I found you through your FB site.

I also love Honey & Clover and I highly recommend you get the entire series. FYI, the second season is being aired this summer.

A relatively recent show that I've been watching is Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu aka The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. It's very funny and addictive. I also recommend Nana though one of the Nana's can be pretty irritating. Both these shows have a pretty good summary at this Anime News Network article.

Also, thanks for all your hard work translating the FB chapters. I really appreciate being able to follow it as it is released in Japan (as well as religiously buying all the FB volumes as they are released in the US)

Re: Hi there!

(Eek! Cyber stalker! :P ) Thanks for the info! I'll be checking out the rest of Honey & Clover once I can clear off some HD space. It only comes in a compiled DL and I don't think I have that much space on a drive left. >_<; Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu? I think I remember seeing the title. Will be sure to hunt it down. Cheers! ^_^

Grrrr! And here I was thinking my wallet was safe! I'm having much too much fun watching this so far and suspect I'm going to go for the novels. There are too many questions arising from what I've watched and the little bits I've gathered from a wikipedia type page in Japanese.

Thanks for the link! ^___^

kazuchibish

BT clients - I like Azureus. It took a little getting used to, but it has very nice flexibility and has been very robust. If you only want certain files in a packaged torrent, or if you want to set your uploading to a certain level to reserve bandwidth, Azureus has you covered. Yeah, there's functionality I'll probably never need, but it's more than worth it for what I do use.

I was just browsing through your archives and found this little entry and I am astounded as to how powerful Saiunkoku Monogatari's allure is.

Like you, it's all because of this anime that I stayed up till dawn of whatever days those were just learning all about how to work and download a BT client--Azureus--and all that codecs and other s***. I felt as though my brain went through so much hell just to be able to get my hands on Saiunkoku (lol) ^^.

And knowing that someone else did the same thing, getting a BT client for the first time and codecs and stuff, for the same reason makes me feel a little better about it--Now I know I'm not the only one who went through so much just for Saiunkoku. (lmao)
