Yikes!

October 6th, 2005 (02:29 pm)

Well, I guess it's pretty much final. I'm going to Japan for 2 weeks in Nov. ...... Every now and again, it surprises me at how quickly things can get decided and done here. >_< And as usual, the male parental insists on certain things (he likes to arrange the travel arrangements even though it's a source of stress and frustration for me...) for flights so it'll cost more than I really wanted to pay, but... I'll have him pay to stay at a nice ryokan somewhere for a night or for a nice hotspring stay. :P (We're regular travel companions since we're both single but it does lead to a lot of misunderstandings sometimes. >_<)

Right now, we have no itinerary / travel concept beyond fly to Tokyo and come back via Osaka. Tokyo's first night hotel has been booked (ultra-cheap! Y5500/pp!! It's small, but you simply can't beat the location and at this rate will become our first stop on any Tokyo bound flight. Tsukiji fish market... *_* ), and I'll be looking at hotels in Shinjuku for the second night. There's the possibility of going to Ghibli Museum on the second day we're there and from a quick glance, it looks like going to the museum is essentially from Shinjuku. ^___^ (BTW, the male parental does enjoy certain anime and doesn't mind going to the museum. I've wanted to go for some time but have never managed it. Oh, not to mention he stole my totoro mug a number of years back and we've never managed to find another like it to replace mine).

As for the trip itself... I want to pick up a new SLR camera (I'm reasonably happy with my digital, but the SLR has been dying over the past couple of trips), tea of course (Shizuoka and Uji), and I'm thinking umeboshi but I'll probably pick that up in Kyoto as well. I guess I can pick up HP2 hardcover in J for the female sibling for Xmas again (although I don't think she finished HP1). The only problem is, I have no idea where to find a camera shop in the Tokyo area. Osaka yes, Tokyo... Ugh! (I really don't like Tokyo very much).

Anyhow, I have to switch to my computer to do any serious hotel hunting and such. ^___^

*hugs* I'd say I'll send a postcard except I'm notoriously horrible about sending them. (I'll buy and write them, but actually mailing them...) ^^;;

Oh no, Shinjuku is the ghetto! Make sure your hotel isn't in an alleyway like mine was =/

Wow! Sounds like you had an interesting vacation(? longer?) when you were in Japan if you stayed in Shinjuku and also travelled to Hakone. ^_^ As it is, we'll be staying at the Washington hotel so it should be all right. It's a reliable and consistent hotel chain. I'm not very familiar with Shinjuku itself (or Tokyo for that matter; like I said, I don't like Tokyo much), so we'll see how things go with that. As it is, the first night, we'll be in the Ginza area although nowhere disreputable as going to the fish market first thing the next morning is a must. ^____^

The one thing that I'm a little "mrf" about is that when making reservations (online), I noticed that using the J site, I got better rates than using the English side. I wasn't too impressed with that.

I was only in Japan for nine day =/ My family and I backpacked, so we were all over the place. We went to Yokohama, Tokyo (Ginza and Shinjuku), Hakone and Kyoto. Just be careful in Shinjuku because it's really dangerous, especially at night. It really is the ghetto, I kid you not. It pretty much looks like New York City, but I guess I'm used to that since I live near there :D

Absolutely! >_< I saved a bundle at the beginning of this year when I booked my Hokkaido snowboarding vacation on the J-version of the resort sites. Not just better room rates, but discounted lift passes and even complimentary bus transfers that were just not mentioned on the English pages...

^____^ I'll probably post digi shots a couple days after getting back. I'm not entirely sure about posting as I go though. Depends on what sort of 'net access is available and stuff. Some hotels actually have complimentary access terminals in the lobby. ^_^

LOL! Greetings and welcome! ^__^ I'm really hoping to be able to go to the museum. The trick will be getting the tickets or maybe seeing if a friend over there might be able to go too and can pick up tickets. *pray*
