Beans Ace Final Vol

October 8th, 2009 (03:42 am)

Ack! (Why am I still awake?) Just happened to check on the 2ch Migawari thread and verified that the info's true, but Vol 21 of Beans Ace is the final one for the magazine. As yet, I have no idea what will happen with Saiunkoku and Migawari - whether the two series will continue in Asuka or something else. Will comment more once I know more (and preferably at a more reasonable time of day.

I finally started searching for a new system the other day. But it's still very early in the search as I try to balance system specs and projected personal needs for the next 2-3 years. >.> I really wish hunting for a new system could be easier.

Otherwise, I've read most of Kokuhaku now (I haven't read some middling parts yet), and I definitely want the next volume! >_<;; What a horrible horrible place to leave things! O_O;; It's kind of funny though. After getting the book, the first thing I did was flip through the pics (thus identifying the different scenes that have been mentioned in spoilers) and jumped straight to the end where a major bombshell was dropped. ^o^ Unfortunately, I can't share scans or anything for obvious reasons. *sigh*

Having read the After Word though, I'm not sure if the next volume may well be the end of the series. It's hard to say and can be taken either way. Given how much name dropping (for people and places) has happened, and the richness of the world the author created, I definitely hope that the series will continue even though the next volume will be the last for the current arc. I can always hope. In any case. Shall see what I might be able to glean (later) about what's happening with Migawari and Saiunkoku now that Beans Ace is no more.

Lol, I have such a bad habit about skipping to the end of a book, or at least skipping farther ahead and reading. I'm starting to curve such destructive tendencies but I just wanna know NOW what happens.

*laughs* Since I read the spoilers, I already knew the 'what', but wanted to know the 'how'. ^^; I've read that scene a number of times now, and it still makes me laugh. ^o^

Gah! R-really? Oh noes! What will happen to my beloved Saiunkoku?!

::faints in theatrical panic on a fainting couch::

. . . wait, who put a fainting couch in here?

Indeed, thank you for that information, and I would very much appreciate any further knowledge you glean. ::floorbow::

Saiunkoku will apparently be moving to Asuka (monthly manga mag) as of the Dec issue (to be released Oct 24). ^_^

By the looks of it, and as mentioned by _neith_, Saiunkoku will be moving to Asuka as of the Dec issue being released on Oct 24. It's hard to say for sure if the story will literally continue from Ch... 22(?) since they only list the title in the contents, though. >.> While there might be more info in the actual Beans Ace vol, I won't receive my copy for about another month.

In any case, it looks like Saiun fans are safe (although some might be left scrambling to get the next copy of Asuka or get subscriptions to the mag). ^_^

Asuka's website lists a few titles formerly serialized in Beans Ace, including Saiunkoku, but I can't see Migawari listed anywhere. Hopefully, it'll continue somewhere else (The Beans?), or maybe the mangaka is just taking a break after finishing the first novel.

By the way, not sure if you've seen this already, but it looks like The Beans will also be releasing some nice collectibles. :)

Thanks for the link! Looks like they need to update their list of titles for that site. ^^;

I'm not sure what's happening with Migawari. There was a comment a few months ago on 2ch when Issue 20 came out since the manga-ka mentioned that she'd never have the opportunity to do a cover illust, colour illust, and shitajiki for Migawari again. At the time people weren't sure if that comment was meaningful or if she was being modest, but I seem to remember reading something about her agreeing to something only to back out of it. As you mentioned, the current story ends with the chapter in issue 21, so it's hard to tell if Migawari might also eventually go to Asuka, if it'll go elsewhere, or if it's ending at the end of the first book. >.>

That campaign is spooky. O_O;; Some folks were talking about it earlier... I can't remember in which thread on 2ch, but they were also wondering about the campaign. Supposedly some of the book titles will be worth 2 pts each, but normally, things are only 1 pt per volume. If you only went after 1 pt titles (and all of Maoh's titles are supposed to be 1 pt) you'd need to collect 80 books to get the highest level...?? ~7 books / month. That's ~$35-40/month. A lot to ask kids in school / uni to pay to get that top rank. I think I'm going to hope someone will leak the password on 2ch for the Migawari SS page. Even if I lived in Japan and could take part, I don't know if I could collect the 20 points needed to get the password. (7(+?) more Migawari volumes + 2-3 Saiun + 2-3 Shounen Onmyouji...) Doubtful I'd be able to get enough points. >.>

Wow, that sounds pretty crazy... Not many people can afford to spend that much just to get some collectibles, especially not younger readers.

Not living in Japan, my only hope is that people will sell the items on Yahoo Auctions (of course, it'd probably cost me a kidney or two to buy them from there... xD). I'm guessing some Beans readers will also sell their points, so maybe people can get the items cheaper that way. Still, I think the publisher is asking for way too much in return just for some calendars and short stories. 2-5 books would have been more reasonable.
