Maundering Mind...

aggravated

current mood: aggravated

Actually, I think I might be a bit tired today. The brain's fazing out. ^^; Not good. I need to get things moving if I want to drown Ysa this weekend. :P (......Is it even possible to drown that girl?? I don't think I've ever managed to do that yet.) ^^;

In any case, while I'm waiting for the first of my Shoumyou compiles, I thought I'd do a quicky comment on GH File... 6? Forbidden Games / Ryokuryou HS case. FWIW, the anime story does follow the original manga reasonably well other than the omissions. I remember being a bit confused when working on ep 15 that I don't remember Yasuhara-shounen ever mentioning how there was a shrine nearby, and I guess they cut the scene but left the chance issue in the conversation instead. It's a bit wonky in that sense. :/

As it is though, I try to read more of vol 5 & 6 for GH that was done by Del Rey, but each time I start reading, I'm always confused by what I'm reading. Not only is Naru a royally brat... well he's acting like a royal prick IMO in the English version. (He can be a pain, but he has some good points. ...like walls. ^^;) But things like:

pg 104 (Del Rey 2nd row~ / italics=me)
Lin: Please read what it says here on the right.
Look at this part here on the right

Bou-san: It says "write the name of the cursed victim here"
Lin: The name of the person to be cursed is written here.

Mai: Whoa, is that really Sanskrit?
Huh, so this is called Sanskrit.

Bou-san: I see.
......I see.

I can make out the name "Hideaki Matsuyama."
The only way to read that is Matsuyama Hideharu.

Matsuyama: Wha-
Wha-!

pg 106
Good thing for us that the age, at least, was written
in this standard, legible way.
Writing it in kanji like this would've been fine.
In fact, that's the proper way to do it. However...

If "Matsuyama" had been written this clearly, anyone could have guessed something was going on.
...if Matsuyama were clearly written, anyone would become suspicious.

I wonder why it was deliberately written in Sanskrit?
So that's why it was deliberately written in Sanskrit, huh?

*****

Things like this really annoy me. The first made me look at the page oddly. The second made me *look* at the page and wonder what sort of moron would ask why something was done a certain way, right after the reason was given?? Especially since it's *Naru* asking that last question. Naru's incredibly intelligent. Why oh why would he ask such a dense question??

*sigh* But yes. The anime story is much more faithful to the manga storyline than Del Rey has been. Oddly enough, I think Del Rey's rendition is more horrifying and scary for me than the actual story is. >.<; And that's enough ranting and crying. My first compile is finished, so I need to go back to Shoumyou. ^^;

Tenpou last orders (emungere)

(......Is it even possible to drown that girl?? I don't think I've ever managed to do that yet.) ^^;

*laughs* It probably is. But I'll just do what I can, same as always. ^^

*twitches* Reading page 104, I was kinda like, well, one spot looks a little off, but it's not an unreasonable rewrite. And then I got to page 106. O_O Suddenly I understand your pain. That's just horrible.

I think what got me about 104 was the logistics of it. Why would you leave the instructions on the paper if it's written in a language that most people can't read and assuming that the person's name is already written there. The possible alternatives just went weirder and weirder from there in my brain. ^^;

Unfortunately, things like 106 happen throughout the book. Usually the elements are in the sentence, but for some reason the sentence is 180 from where it should be. >.

GH - Mai *shakefist*

*grumblecry* Why, Del Rey, why?!

On your cut text: would you?! Would you really?! I'd probably buy the Japanese to have the images. (Damn you, Del Rey, for making me refuse to buy the translation!!!)

I'm seriously thinking about doing it, but it won't be until after we finish subbing the series. I really don't want to try juggling subbing 3 titles plus doing translations for a couple (or more?) volumes of the manga. ^^;

I have a terrible confession to make: I have a wish list. I know I won't get everything on the list, but it's there. Fortunately, there's no time limit, and I can get distracted by shinies (yesterday is one such case).

*blink* A wish list? ......of what? Or should I be asking that? ^^; BTW, did I read right in that you finished all your reading yesterday?? I can't remember how long HanaKimi was anymore so I'm not sure. ^^;

Well, y'know how you're often saying things like, "it was so much better/sweeter/cuter/more sensible in the novel"? Wouldn't it be fun to… yeah, see? Aren't you glad you asked?

*pours tea*

I finished HanaKimi in the (4-hour) break between classes today. It's 23 vol total, with a short yomikiri. Insane? Me?

*hides*

*laughs* 23 volumes in 1-2 days. Yikes! ^^;

Good thing I'm a Chinese reader or I'd've puked blood reading such nonsensical stuff... What kind of idiots do DelRey employ as translators? Thank God those Jap-Chinese translators for Tong Li and the other chinese publishers are decent...

I was actually going to buy the GH novels from Del Ray but now I don't want to. I'll just have to see which other publishers in or who ship to UK have it *possibly none*

On another note, yay for the fact that you are on a GH release spree. I hope you wont make us wait for 16 and 17 too long, I cant wait to see the NaruXMai moments, the blogs are squealing about ^_^ Thank you :)

Also Shadow when you get a min, I have a trans req for you ;)

Depends on the minute and what you want translated. ^^; I'm starting to feel like people are glaring at me for not moving more on the other titles we're subbing. ^^;

Mate, I feel your pain. I've always been very dubious of English translated manga (Viz comes to mind) ... it's the reason why I've refused to buy the Del Rey versions (I'd much rather get the Japanese versions)! Thank you for pointing out the differences and proving there are grounds for my hesitation!

I never noticed that. But then again, beggars can't be choosers! That's the only version us non-Japanese-readers can understand =/
