Shadow [userpic]

Kokumono ep 23 note

December 11th, 2006 (07:25 pm)

Just a minor note for those who might be interested. As some folks are aware, I put in a plea for help regarding this ep a little earlier, and the results of that plea did make it into the episode. Thanks very much for your help! ^_^ One of the things we didn't do for the ep, however, was to translate the song names that Senya requests Shuurei to play. The translated list of songs are:

-Record of the East Sagami River
-Legend of the Female Mandarin Duck*
-Autumn of the Coloured Palace
-Record of the Biwa**
-Blue Distant Princess

*similar title to an actual literary work
**name of an actual piece

Since I couldn't find reference to three of the titles in any form, we decided against translating the titles in the episode.

Biwa Ki is an actual piece and is supposed to be a very long play with 42... scenes(?). I'm not quite sure but the dictionary says something about it being a tale of fidelity of a calligrapher and his wife and 5 daughters in the late Han Dynasty. (I think...) ^^;

The others I don't know since I couldn't get a true match with the titles as written.

Shoumyou - light into my life

He's from Shounen Onmyouji. It's my new anime-obsession. I have Shadow to blame thank for that.

Re: Your lovely icon
lemme go

Sharing is good. ^_^ As much as I could've had Guren all to myself, I wouldn't have gotten (couldn't think of a way not to use it... :P ) my new user-piccie. Mokkun, yay! ^o^

Re: Your lovely icon
Shoumyou - light into my life

*grin* I find myself reordering my own speech to avoid it. When I go on a crusade, I don't go half-measure. ^_^

As to how you could have gotten a pretty userpic otherwise, I think something like: *sad eyes* Ginny, make me a pretty icon? *sad eyes* I'm so tired from answering all of your questions and figuring out stupid video things that I can't do it myself. *sad eyes* And so on. ^_^

Kou

So thanks for all you do. I had a question about Shuurei's pass in 23... so it is a symbol for the Kou clan--meaning her clan? Did Senior Secretary Kou (yellow) give it to her just because Senior Secretary Kou--her uncle hasn't introduced himself to her yet?

Re: Kou

Something you would only know from reading the books. The travel pass she carries is of the Kou (yellow) clan which is why she got it from Kijin. If it were of her own clan, Kurou, Shouka or even Kouyuu could have given it to her. The reason why she isn't traveling under her own clan's travel pass is because it would draw too much attention to herself as it's second only to the Ran clan's. Kijin's clan's travel pass is prestigious enough that it will see her through most checkpoints without problem while not being so high as to draw undue attention to herself.

Re: Kou
Kokumono - Shouka = harmless

So Kou Kijin is a different Kou than Kou Shouka, Reishin and Kurou? I was wondering, but never managed to include that in one of the many the barrages of questions.

Then what convinced them to give up the paint secret? Was that Ryuuki's doing? Or did Reishin/Kurou make a deal with them?

I am an endless fount of questions. *hides*

Re: Kou

The one royal problem with this series is the number of similar sounding names. >.< One of the main clues as to which is being talked about though is colour. Kijin always wears yellowy clothing and his clan's emblem is also yellowish. The same is true if you watch Shuuei and Ryuuren's clothing and the Ran clan travel pass. (Likewise, Ryuuki wears some purple, while Shuurei, Shouka, and Kurou all have reddish clothes. I don't remember for the daishoguns Koku and Haku though). ^^;

The Kou clan gave up the paint in exchange for Shuurei's safety. That was the direct request they (Kurou and Reishin) sent; basically in exchange for giving the Merchants' Guild the secret of how to make the paint, if Shuurei should seek their help, the Guild would help her immediately, regardless of what they might have been doing at that time. For all that Ryuuki may be Emperor, I doubt he has any power when it comes to giving away clan secrets like the paint. Not to mention how Kurou and Reishin both view him... ^^;

lantern unto myself (thewriteratwork)

Not to mention how Kurou and Reishin both view him... ^^;

*snicker* So true! I did notice about the Ran clothing! ^_^ I was confused about Kou & Kou. *wail*

Thanks for enlightening me!

Re: Kou
honour student

*smacks self* I knew "kou" was red! "koucha" ^_^ Although in English it's black tea. How can I remember that the Japanese call black tea red tea more easily than I can remember that Shuurei is red and Kijin (KIJIN! I miss him!) is yellow?

Wow. I was hoping that as I got more awake, my clarity would improve. O_O

I'm just going to step away from the intarwebs now.

Re: Kou

So me the anonymous again...though I don't go back that on a general basis...anyway...
just to help me get it straight:
So Senior Secretary Kou-yellow gave her a pass with his clan-yellow emblem on it. But the Kou-reds knew about it and put the paint on that pass before Kou-yellow gave it to her. So it is the Kou-red clan's special paint which they promised to reveal to the Guild in exchange for Shuurei's protection... so basically it's all a conspiracy for her benefit. Right?
And no kidding about the names...Shuurei and Shuuei, the Kou and Kou especially since there are two Senior Secretary Kous, and then Kourin and Koren(sp?) the name of the capital of Sa Province...I'm watching the raws trying to pick out tidbits and this past episode I couldn't tell what they were talking about...but then my Japanese is all limited to what I've picked up from anime and roomates who've studied in Japan...

Re: Kou
nouveau geek (gleefulfreak)

I'm thinking that since Kijin and Reishin are "friends" (Reishin'd kill me for saying that!), they came up with this plan. So yes, a conspiracy. But a good one.

Koren is indeed spelling of the capital of Sa province. My Japanese is very feeble, too. Some of the stuff I come up with… *is ashamed*

(ha! You think Kourin/Koren is bad?! In Ghost Hunt, there's jorei/jourei! *twitch*)

Re: Kou

*laughs* I agree, Reishin probably wouldn't want to even remotely agree with that comment. ^^;

>.< Don't remind me about those two. I have a hard time keeping them straight without actually seeing the words. I can hear the difference, but it's still hard to remember which is which. >_<;

Re: Kou
Sherilyn Van Valkenburg - Delirium

Insight into the GinnyBrain (brace for impact!): jourei is the kinder gentler one, and the sound of the o is softened & lengthened by the u. Jorei is the harsh one, and the o is shorter & harsher.

Of course, that's provided I have them straight. lalala!

(I can hear the difference only when they're said one after another. This is why you're the translator and I'm not. ^_^)

Re: Kou

Yes, that's right. Right now, in Saiunkoku, Shuurei's travel pass has more pull to it than even the Ran clan's. ^_^

Shadow-san!
i have a question about shunki and kokujun x_x
in your novel time line you mentioned that Eiki plots to have Kokujun and Shunki spend the night together but kokujun escapes to keep his sanity?
why would he? if he's like in love with shunki ^^;;
sorry I tend to go back to your notes with each new episode lol

^^; They're not married, nor has anything of the sort been arranged between them yet. Also, up until then, I don't believe Kokujun had even kissed Shunki yet... much to Eiki's shock and astonishment. ^^;
